3. I have an FFH, too.
Don't you just love it! At 5300 miles, my average MPG is 38.0.

4. The fuel efficiency is great but
I also like the roominess. I am 6 feet tall so I don't think I could handle a long drive in a Prius or smaller hybrid.

6. I have an '83 Toyota Tercel 4x4...
...that has managed 37-38 mpg on full tanks...mixed driving....not quite as nice as your ride though.

Once got a 47 mpg full tank with a 25 mph tailwind all day.

9. My best MPG
was on a five-mile drive from the mall back to home. 74 MPG!

Unfortunately, I'm not nearly that lucky every day. And now that the weather has turned colder, my MPG has dropped by one or two-tenths of a mile per gallon. The internal combustion engine needs to warm up before it can take full advantage of the electric "engine".

10. You might consider trying Tufoil in that engine and in the drivetrain for a little more efficiency.
...plus use synth oils?

Not to mention driving techniques?

11. One reason mileage drops in colder weather is higher air density..
There is more aerodynamic drag at colder temperatures because the air is thicker and harder to push aside, this shows up more the faster you drive since higher speeds increase the effect of aerodynamic drag on efficiency.

When it's cold motor warm up time will be increased a bit but most cars these days have electrically heated oxygen sensors that reach closed loop stoichiometric combustion status within a minute or so which basically means the engine is as efficient as it's going to get.

Cold weather gasoline formulation also tends to have a little less energy per gallon I think but I could be mistaken about that.

5. Holy cow, Toyota DESTROYED the Scion Xb with that stupid new 2.4l
My 2005 has a 1.5l and gets around 35mpg.

The new one? 22/28

HELL YEAH PROGRESS. No difference between the manual and the automatic.
I am impressed. That's not just static, or a little bit worse, that's disgustingly worse.

What the hell are they thinking

8. Apparently this was an attempt to make them 'sporty'.
So much for one of the most utilitarian designs I've seen in years.

I wonder if the Nissan Cube is a worthy succssor, when the wheels come off mine?
