Don't worry about the environment. It's going to be just fine.
A mere 10 million years or so after the extinction of mankind, the environment will recover completely and earth's ecosystems will be humming along just fine:

1. All sorts of disasters have happened in the past
that nearly erased all life on the surface of the planet. Life came back to fill the niches of the new environment, though.

The planet and life will both endure until the sun runs out of gas.
