A nice article explains the advantages of using Jatropha as a fuel stock. It is also another example that second generation biofuels will be jumping into the market very soon.
Here it is:
Plans for a state-of-the-art biodiesel refinery are underway in Florida. Ag-Oil is building a pilot-scale non-food oilseed biodiesel production facility that will convert Jatropha seeds, algae and other byproducts into biodiesel fuel.
Ag-Oil is collaborating with the University of Florida, Southern Illinois University, Argonne National Laboratory and the United Environment and Energy on the project.
Jatropha (Jatropha curcas) is a seed-producing shrub or tree containing nonedible oil. The oil from the seed is a viable alternative to petroleum otherwise used in the production of diesel fuel.
