Deer Scott Says US "Leading" Efforts On Global Warming - AFP
Pardon me while I wipe the coffee off of my computer screen . . .

"The United States rejected the Kyoto Protocol -- which comes into effect Wednesday -- for "good reasons," but America has been a leader in pushing the science of climate change, White House press secretary Scott McClellan said. Talking to reporters Tuesday, McClellan said the administration of President George W. Bush had made an unprecedented commitment to trim the growth of greenhouse gases without moving to curtail America's economic growth.

"We are continuing to move forward in an aggressive way to address climate change. It is a serious matter; it's a matter that this administration takes very seriously," he said. "Under this administration we have made an unprecedented commitment to reduce the growth of greenhouse gas emissions in a way that continues to grow our economy.

"There's a lot that we are still learning about the science of climate change, but this administration is working to advance that science and to learn more about climate change, itself, and its effect on the world."

EDIT

McClellan said Washington was moving forward on a number of environmental iniatives including 3.6 billion dollars in tax incentives for renewable energy effecient technologies over the next five years. He added the adminstration was also "increasing fuel economy standards."

EDIT/END

ED. Note: Let's see, 3.6B in tax incentives over five years . . . wow, a whole $720 annually - almost one week's worth of Iraq occupation costs.

2. They are NOT taking any of this seriously
It is crazy to pretend otherwise. If you don't believe in climate change you can at laast believe that we can't keep pumping oil forever. You're right, they are not spending nearly the money they should on this. If we took the Iraq money or the money earmarked for social security "reform" we could probably get this problem solved in time. I can't blame private industry for not wanting to touch this. That's what the government is for and they are not doing their job.

3. leader in pushing the science of climate change
Yup. A real leader in pushing the science. Although we note you don't say where it is being pushed to.
