Help Wanted: Wind Farms Need Techs To Keep Operating
GREEN COLLAR CAREER FOCUS: WIND
Turbine Technicians or "Windsmiths" The career of Wind Energy Technician includes repair, installation and to trouble-shooting of wind energy towers.

This is great career for people with electronic and mechanical talents.

Wind Technicians Must Work Under The Following Conditions:
-Ability to work comfortably at heights up to 350 Feet
- Good physical condition for ladder climbing and occasional heavy lifting
- Must work outdoors in all types of weather conditions
- Must be able to work without supervision in small teams
- Valid drivers license

Basic Requirements For Entry Level Positions:
-High school diploma or GED.
-Technical Wind Turbine Technician Degree from accredited school.
-Mechanical and electrical maintenance preferred.
-Ability to read and interpret complex instructions & diagrams.
-Safety certifications, especially regarding working at heights.-
-Good math, reading and writing skills.
-Experience using hand and power tools.

1. Many community colleges are starting to offer 2 year degrees for this
Electrical Power Technology, or similarly named.

2. The heights thing will limit the applicants. I know I wouldn't go up there, LOL!
I wouldn't be an ironworker or a lineman or a cell-tower tech, either. But nice to know they've got jobs open.

I'll be finishing a masters in aero engineering soon and want to go into wind energy, so I'm happily seeking info!

6. Just a suggestion
You might check out Clipper Windpower. I think they are based somewhere in California. I know they have facilities in different areas of the country. Their is a manufacturing facility here in Cedar Rapids Iowa. I also have heard many good things about them with reference to to them as an employer. I do know they were laying off some when the downturn happened them I heard recently they were hiring again.....but not sure about that.
I believe they work most of the wind belt from Texas up into the Dakota's. If I was a young man I would definitely be checking this out. Problem for me would be that a step ladder is as high as I will go....*L*
