Advocacy group asks for Entergy transparency

By Susan Smallheer Herald Staff - Published: January 15, 2009

BRATTLEBORO — The Vermont Public Interest Research Group wants key — but currently secret — parts of the recent reliability assessment of the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant made public.

VPIRG sent a letter to Entergy Nuclear this week asking the company to cancel the blackout on about 25 percent of the 400-page report, which was released a few days before Christmas. The report addresses the long-term reliability of the reactor.

Moore said the lengthy report was interpreted by state officials as supportive of continued operation of Vermont Yankee for the next 20 years, when a closer examination of the report showed profound criticism of Entergy and its operation of Vermont Yankee.

"It's a scathing assessment, written in flowery engineer's language," said Moore, which said the report compiled a long list of "ifs" about the plant's continued operation.

1. flowery engineer's language???
Must come from the same type of engineers that wrote the final Morton Thiokol memo.

Wonder what my old English for Engineers professors think. Flowery? They were happy we could actually make a sentance without resorting to equations in it.
