KITTERY, Maine — The wind turbine at the Solid Waste Facility has produced more energy in the past two weeks than in the previous 21?2 months of operation.

The 50-kilowatt system by Entegrity Wind Systems Inc. became operational on Oct. 2, and, through Dec. 18, had produced 1,715 kilowatt hours of energy, Kittery Energy Advisory Committee member Dr. Cameron Wake said.

Wake, a professor of earth sciences at the University of New Hampshire, said that from Dec. 18 to Jan. 5, the turbine produced nearly 2,613 kilowatt hours of energy.

"For the last two weeks, we have seen more than a doubling of the energy produced, which is what we expect," Wake said. "We expect the production of the wind turbine to peak in the winter months because the wind in New England is always stronger during the winter."
