Brown calls California a model for energy efficiency; Calls for R&D tax breaks

BY SCOTT SABATINI

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Legal Newsline)--California Attorney General Jerry Brown told Legal Newsline he believes America needs an efficiency expert.

In a wide-ranging interview Friday, Brown said the United States must reduce its dependency on foreign oil, which would save billions of dollars through increasing energy efficiencies.

"There is massive gain to be realized from efficiency," Brown said in between bites of a lunchtime sandwich on Friday, "but the federal government has been asleep. California has proven you can save billions of dollars. And it's criminal they way the federal government has ignored its leadership in this area."

The model of success for the county, Brown said, is California, where the state has kept electrical consumption flat for the past quarter of a century and where plans to increase energy efficiency are a fabric of future planning.

1. Efficiency: the fastest, cheapest way to get new power.

2. There's a lot of room for improvement. I would be ALL FOR a law that,

for instance, required landlords to gradually upgrade insulation (with subsidies?) in apartments as they do with appliances and plumbing and carpeting and such when they wear out. Walls don't wear out, per se, so what ISN'T under the sheetrock stays out of mind.

This is sort of my new pet peeve, having moved into an older and therefore rent-controlled apartment that obviously has little or no insulation, lol.

The newer apartments supposedly have better insulation, but I am betting there is still substantial room for improvement in the code requirements. After all, it can get 119 degrees here!!! Insulation matters.

3. Congratulations. You must all be very proud.
http://www.eia.doe.gov/oiaf/1605/state/excel/CA_04_details.xls">One wonders if yuppies are trying to be delusional or whether they just stumble into it obliviously.

Since Jerry Brown left office as Governor, the increase in the unrestricted dumping of dangerous fossil fuel waste has been over 100 million tons per year.

In fact, at more than 400 million tons of carbon dioxide dumping per year, the State of California dumps more than ten times the amount dumped by the entire nation of Bangladesh - although Bangladesh has a population that is 11 times larger than that of California.

But let's be clear, the yuppies gathered around the solar pool lights tonight congratulating themselves on their obliviousness couldn't give a rat's ass about any body who makes less than $30,000/year. In fact they don't give a rat's ass about any one who makes less than $100,000/year in general.

The more I contemplate the provinces and provincialism - orgies of ignorance - the worse I feel about the time I have wasted trying to implore decency from them.
