Do You Have a Panglossian Disorder?
Do You Have a Panglossian Disorder? or Economic and Planetary Collapse: Is it a Therapeutic Issue?

I have spoken elsewhere about the label “Doomer,” and I’ve come to believe that this frame is outdated. Instead, I would like to suggest that we must stop asking ourselves, given the lateness of the hour, why there are those pessimistic about the future, and begin asking, instead, why there are those still blindly and enthusiastically optimistic about it. Could this be a disorder, in itself? Here’s my proposal:

Panglossian Disorder: “The neurotic tendency toward extreme optimism in the face of likely cultural and planetary collapse.”

1. I think that the bush regime will face the music in the end
the dick prolly not due to his heart giving out but the rest of them will pay and pay dearly so does that make me have a panglossian disorder? I'm fine with it if it is.

Its not only in our hands anymore its in the worlds peoples hands now. Theres been too many people killed and too much destroying going on to ignore and hope it'll all go away anymore. We will send the suspected war criminals to the Hague or the world will demand it and in the end our government will be sending these folks on a one way ticket vacation. If any of them can prove their innocense then I say let them go free but no many will be able to do that is my prediction.

Bushco is going down and going down hard too.

2. A new value is about to arrive
I am calm in the thought that the companies will come through with all of the tools we need to keep warm, get from one place to another without the use of oil or gas. We will learn to work together much better as we all use our various skills to move forward on the new path. We will all remember how to laugh. Our children will be happy to spend time with family. Those with multi-millions will reach out and connect with those who need their financial help and will be happy to give them the gifts that will enable them all to move forward on paths as rewarding new relationships flourish.

3. That is one question. Another could be
what the disorder is called when the predicted doom doesn't happen on schedule and you are actually disappointed?

My friend wanted to watch it :puke: it was the fast-forward, circus version of climate change. A movie like that makes it easier for simple people to say that the scientists must have been wrong, mass-disaster isn't happening quick enough to make their short attention spans, better carry on consuming!

4. that sure would explain all the babies
Worldly, educated people thinking it's a good idea to give the rest of this century to their innocent kids :O it's some terrible delusional sickness. They've seen the truth but deny it anyway.. they have to, to stay happy :D

6. My optimism is based on the prospect of a society getting clue.
if people get a clue, then I'm optimistic, if they don't I'm pessimistic.

In the mean time, I'm making my own preparations. converting my whole property to food production, installing a rainwater harvesting and watering system, digging a root cellar, not using fossil fuels for anything. Bike to work, house powered by wind and currently getting food from CSA and farmers market.

I haven't had to buy gas for my car in over 4 months.
