Tuesday June 3, 7:01 am ET

SUGAR LAND, TX--(MARKET WIRE)--Jun 3, 2008 -- Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) -- Thanks to a second congressional extension of the wind energy production tax credit (PTC) through December 31, 2008, developers and manufactures have moved forward with a record number of wind power installations in the U.S. in 2007. The trend continues at a record pace in 2008. Already as of May 1, 2008, the industry has seen more than 1,700 MW or approximately $3 billion in new wind capacity reach commercial start-up. Currently, 7,900 MW is under construction in 26 states, racing to meet the existing PTC deadline. This new capacity could represent an 84% increase over the previous 2007 record of 5,200 MW.

Beyond 2008, more than 447 wind farms representing more than 70,000 MW or $133 billion are under development in the U.S., with construction starts planned between 2009 and 2013.

1. Of course it's a record-setting year for wind energy:
it's an election year.

Besides that, the rightwing reaction to McClellan's book alone could power DC for several years.

2. The PTC "deadline" exists because the GOP did not see fit to extend them
just for the record

3. The GOP: the greatest concentration of toxic waste known to man.

They have spent the last half century doing everything they could to stop progress and undermine democracy. Now in their ignorance and perversity, they want to take the world down with them. They are a bigger threat to this Earth than all the GHGs and nuclear waste produced by man.

4. They are holding it hostage to this abortion of an energy bill.
I mean, they need some leverage to get the Lieberman Renewable Sabotage Bill passed.

Hey, maybe that could help define the bill. Anyone have any others.

How about a contest and send the best 5 to the discussion group for a poll?

That's my entry: The Lieberman-Warner "Sabotage Renewable Energy Act of 2008"
