Vaclav Klaus -you will be hearing a lot about him in the near future
Edited on Tue Jun-03-08 07:44 AM by underpants
I ran into an editorial in our local rag (first link) and on the next page Krauthammer's article was posted in the same paper (to counter an article by oxfamamerica's director)

Just a heads up. You are going to hear Klaus quoted as an expert for a while.

Hostile Climate

Tuesday, Jun 03, 2008 - 12:09 AM
Vaclav Klaus is president of the Czech Republic. He is also an economist and a man who spent most of his life in a country ruled by communist dictatorship. He gave an important speech recently in Washington that did not receive much attention, though it was delivered at the National Press Club.

He believes freedom is more endangered than the environment -- and blames extreme views about climate change.

Klaus is unconvinced that global warming is as dangerous to mankind as today's common wisdom insists it is. He is even more convinced that it is essential to conduct a reasoned and rational debate about climate change and the potential costs to our environment -- and to our economy and our liberty.

1. What a crock. And what a crackpot. I don't actually think . . .
We'll be hearing so much from Mr. Klaus in the future. He's much more likely to fade into irrelevance when he's (inevitably) eased out of his government post by the next even more energetic Czech politico.

Bureaucrats padding their budgets? Scientists padding their resumes? This is a threat on a par with Stalinist Russia or the soul-destroying Warsaw Pact states that were his legacy?

Even if you buy his notion that the climate-change activists are wrong (not exactly debunked last time I heard), their errors are hardly equivalent to the threat from dangerous monsters like Bush, Murdoch, and Mugabe.

3. Yeah, he was cited by Krauthammer, who had the gall to say that he himself is "agnostic" on climate
Oh, and Charlie the Kraut called for "more studies".

:silly:
