$5 gas near, 78% of Americans say
This is a pretty amazing poll. Even I don't think gas is going to hit $5 this year. I'm not even 100% sure it will hit $4. People are really worried out there.

A vast majority of consumers expect to shell out $4 and even $5 a gallon this year, according to a recent poll.

1. It's already at $4
Silicon Valley, CA, and elsewhere. It's not too hard to imagine it hitting $5.

5. Good point, but the national average is still at $3.60/gal
I would not be surprised by a national average of $4 this year, although I don't consider it a done deal. I will be truly surprised if it makes $5.

9. Yes but that 3.60 is up from 3.00 not so long ago
five dollars sounds like a number they hope to attain and that they will settle on for a while into the foreseeable future. But, no one has a handle on it, theres just no telling whats in store for us. And that is the only constant I see.

7. I think it will hit $4.00, but not stay there
simply because this is an election year. Next year, especially if the Democrats get in, all bets are off.

8. Gas in Ottawa is now $4.50 USD for a US gallon.
That's with gas at $1.20 CAD/liter. At $1.34 we break the $5.00 barrier. That should happen early this summer.
