leading to declining ag yields. Of course the geometrically expanding demand for more, more more isn't helping. So I guess losing this excellent program that actually works was inevitable as we ride this roller coaster, going down - wheeee!

believe in having large families will get mad. We're a society of "family values" with RW clergy wanting to rule our lives and government.

Much of our farmland is gone from development, etc. We import most our food from Chile, Mexico, etc. They don't have controls or inspections, etc.

It might be good to rotate those crops/grass lands with Cover, etc.to keep the soil nitrogen healthy. Deep tilling also is bad for soil as are over use of fertilizers and hormones. Why use hormones to produce more milk in cows when you just throw it down the drain to keep prices up? Young children are in danger of hormones in their foods. Much of our soil blows away from improper farming methods.

I'm not sure no farming is the answer. How will the next generation of farmers learn their profession? Oh we don't care since corporate farms will be the only ones left? Little the CEOs care about any of these problems. Profit is the bottom line (along with that big bonus, etc). What happened to that Corporate Responsibility Act? Just another lie?

The Gulf area did a lot of rice growing. Has that stopped with Katrina?

Our Agriculture Department is drowned in the "bath tub" of smaller government just like every other agency and the "smaller government" lie. I read our government is even larger but with private contractors. Private contractors which are full of Bush, etc. cronies. Many times the service or product never arrives. The experienced and long time federal employee gone forever. Could those long time retired employees come back and help us? We need Civil Service back since government does it best and cheaper.

Farmers, like back in the Grange days, have to get together and demand infrastructure, national markets, and education for farmers and their children to follow them. That includes over sight of corporate farms which should only be American and under our laws. Canadians are buying up our railroads (closing non-profit lines which farmers depend on and raising shipping cost for their own profit). Railroads and highways owned by foreign countries profit is a bad deal for our infrastructure.

For many years farmers and city people had an agreement to have programs so food would get to their table. Without that we are just a 3rd world country sending our food to the highest bidder. We could starve with our dollar plunging. Much of the world doesn't want our hormone, pesticide food products.

In today's government it is how do I (the Bush crony) convince/lie to Americans that we are on it when we do little of any of it. They take an oath of office to Bush not our Constitution and the good of the people. Whistle Blowers speak but no one listens. No one is held accountable by Congress.

Congress has responsibility to see this is done properly. They only care about children's toys, dog food, etc. What about the adults who must raise and educate these children? They need clean air and food, shelter, health care, good jobs and neighborhoods to do so.

I'd like an accounting of how many are federal employees in the the various "boxes" compared to years ago. I feel the boxes were to destroy government for corruption and cronyism. There is no talk of it in the campaign. "Hopeful" is not enough. Or a different "direction" election after election when we are still going the same old path. It is a matter of survival that we turn around.

Remember we are the government as under our contract with our leaders...the Constitution (or union of states). It is there for our purpose. We pay for it. The government must answer to us not ConAqra, Halliburton, the WTO, etc.

We need Roosevelt like reforms since corporate power has brought us to a very bad place.

Sorry I jump around a lot but one has to wonder where to start when talking about what has been done to our once prosperous and secure country.
