In Memory of Marie Schwartz's annual save the seals Halloween party

Humanity lost a huge animal rights crusader a couple of months ago. Marie made Halloween a save the seals event the last couple of years. She really put on a show without scaring the small kids. I'm sure the kids in her area are wondering what happened to her. As they grow older, will they think of the horrors of the hunt for hundreds of thousands of baby seal evey year?

I haven't heard if anyone has taken over her shirts for seals site yet.

1. Too bad she fought for something that has not existed for
something like 15 years i.e. baby seal hunt.

http://tinyurl.com/yqsjvx OMAHA (June 29, 2006)– As REO Speedwagon takes the stage in Memorial Park Friday, pilot Dave McCandless will take to the skies again with an aerial banner to save hundreds of thousands of baby seals in Canada.

Why not channel your resources to animals or even human beings that really are on the edge of extinction?

2. What makes you think there has been no hunt for 15 years?

3. Probably the same thing that makes him/her think that ...
... "human beings really are on the edge of extinction" ...

:eyes:

(One could suggest the answer is "stupidity" but one could also be kind)

4. There has been no hunt for "baby seals", i.e. pups since 1987.
From the Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans:

The image of the whitecoat harp seal is used prominently by seal hunt opponents. This image gives the false impression that vulnerable seal pups are targeted by sealers during the commercial hunt.

The hunting of harp seal pups (whitecoats) and hooded seal pups (bluebacks) is illegal – and has been since 1987. Marine Mammal Regulations prohibit the trade, sale or barter of the fur of these pups. The seals that are hunted are self-reliant, independent animals.

Object to the seal hunt if you want, but to keep characterizing it as a "baby seal hunt" is dishonest.

5. These baby seals haven't had a solid meal yet, they are not independent

As soon as their coats change color, they are hunted. And no self respecting hunter would break any hunting laws. There is no mention of the third skinned alive either. But if you trust the Canadian government that is subsidizing the hunt to be fair on the issue, so be it. It ain't the real world.
