GM electric car said to be ahead of Toyota
http://www.star-telegram.com/business/story/191071.html

Toyota Motor Corp.'s plug-in electric car may have less than half the range of a competing vehicle planned by General Motors Corp., people with knowledge of both companies' programs said.

Beating Toyota in new technology like rechargeable vehicles is part of Chief Executive Rick Wagoner's plan to show that GM can compete with Toyota.

"The latest arms race is being driven by GM," said Jack Nerad, author of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Hybrid & Alternative Fuel Vehicles. "They one-upped everyone with the Volt, and they are saying they aren't going to be out-greened by anyone anymore."

20 miles or less?

Toyota believes that producing an electric car with a range of 40 miles or more can't be done at a cost that would make the vehicle affordable for most consumers, said Jaycie Chitwood, a U.S. senior strategic planner with Toyota's advanced vehicle group in Torrance, Calif.

1. GM already HAD electric cars and it killed &crushed them. Sees the movie...

2. I've got it in my pile of "to be watched". Looking forward to it. I don't really need
a movie to tell me that GM is a craptastic corporation more interested in the bottom line than the future or their children.

3. Just as long as GM sells the cars and doesn't lease them...
I'll seriously consider buying one. That way, they can't take it away from me and crush it.
