GOP blocks legislation to award seniors $250
Probably posted elsewhere but this also belongs in the Economy section:

WASHINGTON – House and Senate Republicans on Wednesday thwarted Democratic efforts to award $250 checks to Social Security recipients facing a second consecutive year without a cost-of-living increase.

"Basically, they have their benefit levels flatlined at a time when they're encountering higher costs, reducing their quality of life experience and disappointing them greatly about Social Security," said Rep. Earl Pomeroy, D-N.D., a member of the Ways and Means Social Security subcommittee.

Barbara Kennelly, president of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, said it was a "cruel irony" that while Congress and White House were negotiating a deal extending huge tax cuts to wealthy Americans, "today we're told that providing $250 for America's seniors and their families is considered too generous."

Typical republican mentality: billions in tax cuts for the rich while "providing $250 for America's seniors and their families is considered too generous".

3. Yeah these are the guys who won't let the middle class tax cuts nor unemployment extensions expire?
We aren't getting anything from these guys unless they get what they want.

Progressives should see what they can get. I predict they get what the seniors just got.

8. Scott Brown voted No.
So much for the independent persona he worked hard to cultivate. He will occasionally step away from the republican way, such as voting to end DADT, but I believe a vast majority of is votes are in lock-step with the repubs. It pisses me off as it is that legislators vote like this, but it pisses me off even more when it's someone who is supposed to represent me. :banghead:

9. Taxation without representation all over again...
unless you are one of the elites.

This is what happens when we have the best government that money can buy.
