DOL reports decrease in covered employment from 126.3m to 126.1m on 4/3
Please note the increase to 356,000 from 353,000 reported for last week, making this weeks "drop" larger - also note the admission that the increase in Jobs being reported in the MEDIA is a bit of a "LIE"!The new report says that Covered Employment has decreased over the last 3 months.

April 29, 2004 UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT

SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA

In the week ending April 24, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 338,000, a decrease of 18,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 356,000. The 4-week moving average was 346,500, a decrease of 1,250 from the previous week's revised average of 347,750.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.4 percent for the week ending April 17, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate of 2.4 percent.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending April 17 was 3,013,000, an increase of 3,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 3,010,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,996,500, a decrease of 9,250 from the preceding week's revised average of 3,005,750.


UNADJUSTED DATA

The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 313,063 in the week ending April 24, a decrease of 21,902 from the previous week. There were 401,342 initial claims in the comparable week in 2003.

The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.4 percent during the week ending April 17, a decrease of 0.1 percentage point from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 3,046,331, a decrease of 102,487 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 2.9 percent and the volume was 3,652,316.
