iPhone sales boost Apple results (BBC) {beats forecasts}
US technology giant Apple has seen quarterly results beat forecasts, thanks to strong iPhone sales.

Net profits hit $1.23bn (£953m), or $1.35 a share, in the fiscal third quarter to 27 June, from $1.07bn, or $1.19 a share, a year earlier.

Apple sold more than 5.2 million iPhones in the quarter, seven times greater than the same period a year, before, boosted by a new iPhone model.

Analyst reacted positively to the news and shares rose in after-hours trade.

Shares of Apple ended at $151.60 before rising to $157.02 after the results.

1. The 3GS *rocks*
Even with the battery issue (claimed overheating), my 3GS never gets warmer than my previous smartphone PDA... and is better designed, whose battery lasts longer too.

It's claimed it's a software bug, so when 3.1 comes out...

2. I love my 3G.
It's like having the world in my pocket.

Not as fast as your 3GS, but it's pretty functional once it's been jailbroken.

3. Have you jailbroken yours?
I still am using my jailbroken 1G. Thinking of getting a 3G, but I'd like to hear from people with experience using it with non-ATT service.

4. Yes, but I'm still using it with AT&T.
Jailbreaking it gives me video and tethering and some other stuff.

5. Buying damn expensive gadgets instead of paying your rent?
It is utterly stupid for Apple to be making money on expensive gadgets for yuppies who want to show off. It would be more honorable if they produced decent computers, using their famous system, that ordinary non-rich people could afford to buy new.
