No Improvement in Euro Zone's Unemployment Rate in January

BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) - The unemployment rate remained at 8.8 percent in January in the 12-nation region that shares the euro, unchanged for the 11th straight month despite signs of a tentative economic recovery, the European Union announced Tuesday.

The EU statistics agency Eurostat said unemployment varied widely across the euro area, ranging from 3.9 percent in Luxembourg to 11.2 percent in Spain. All rates are seasonally adjusted. <snip>

In the full 15-nation EU, the jobless rate was also unchanged in January from the previous month, at 8 percent. Britain, Sweden and Denmark have not adopted the euro.
