57 more jobs gone in our small ( pop. 6000) town, today.
Total of 860 some jobs in 6 months.
More, if you count the Taco Bell I just discovered standing empty.

Some of you have been reading about /discussing the grocery store chain Brunos, which, for the 2nd time in just a few years, has sold its stores to another chain, in Fla. and Al.
Our town's Food World was one of them, and it is closing in 3 weeks.
This leaves 2 other large grocery stores, Winn-Dixie and the Piggly-wiggly ( owned by its employees, they say).
And one small community grocery store which has been open for 60 years or more.
And the New Super Center Wal-Mart which opened here, with a huge grocery section, March 18th.
(Talk about timing)

More bad news:
Thyssenkrupp of Germany talked the city of Mobile and the state into $18 million tax
"incentives" to build a cold steel plant not too far from our town.
Whoopee..hooray..the newspapers proclaimed 2,000 jobs would be available.
Turns out now Thyssenkeupp is refusing to answer the City/State officials about how many "immigrants"
will be imported for those jobs.
So the 18 million "job investment" touted in the papers isn't looking too good now.
Hmmm...somebody did not draw up a good contract, methinks.

Isn't it nice the recession is over?
