A Semi Serious Thought For Stimulus

Have the government buy a shitload of gift cards from various troubled retailers and make those available to people with lower incomes?

1. Whatever they do, a bottom-up approach would be more effective.

The coporate types want too large of a commission for "handling" the money - into their offshore accounts.

2. Make unemployment compensation tax free

retroactive to January 2008, and let the people who've lost their jobs decide if they want some trinket from Best Buy, or maybe just a chance to make a payment on the light bill.

3. Not a bad idea

Do that but make it so that the $ could only be spent on American made goods. That way we clear the inventory creating jobs here at home.

Right now, all the gov. employees - i.e. school, road, social, soldiers, etc. are among the most trusted,(?) give them stimulus cards and tell them to spend it on American goods and services. And fire them if they don't.
