Credit Crunch Reduces Mafia Commissions

Sicilian mafia godfathers, members of the Cosa Nostra, reduced fees for their associates because of the economic crisis, an investigation of Italian state attorneys has shown.

Salesmen and entrepreneurs earn less because of the financial crisis, which is also reflected on the Cosa Nostra activities as well, as it collects less money from racqueteering.

Several thousand euros per month

Mafia boss Gaetano Lo Presti decided on the “reduced salaries”, who was arrested in December with 90 more mobsters and hung himself in prison several days later, Italian La Repubblica paper reported on Thursday.

Naples authorities warned of the increased Camorra influence, the yonder mafia organisation. In credit crunch times, Camorra enables hundreds of people to make money for their basic life necessities.

The police confiscated a “pay list” from one of the mafia members which includes sums he paid to associates. Medium paid commissioners earn several thousand euros a month.

Low-ranking mafia bosses and their deputies get between 5,000 and 7,000 euros per month.

Organisation bosses have the average income of managers, i.e. they make 15,000 euros per month, La Repubblica reports.

another good insightful post. What about the mafia money Madoff has taken. I would not want to live in that building. I bet the occupancy rate is is dropping.
