If you had invested $1,000 a year ago...
Edited on Sat Oct-18-08 02:08 PM by TomInTib
If you had purchased $1,000 worth of shares in Delta Airlines, one year ago, you would have $49 today. If you had purchased $1,000 worth of shares in Lehman Brothers, one year ago, those shares would be worth $0 today. But if you had purchased $1,000 worth of canned beer, one year ago, drunk all the beer, then turned in the cans for a recycling refund, you would have received $214.

Based on the above, the best current investment plan is to drink heavily and recycle.

Maybe call the plan 401-Keg.

Now, if I can just find Negra Modelo in cans....

4. I don't know if it comes in cans, but "Bad Penny" is good
I got a taste of some Beer micro brewed in Raleigh NC, called Bad Penny.
It is absolutely delicious and I am not a beer drinker.

Smooth.

7. i know it's a joke, but where is the can deposit 21.4%??
in connecticut the deposit is $0.05 per can, so the beer would have to cost a bit over $0.23 per can. $1.40 for a 6-pack. that's some pretty cheap beer!

8. I don't know.
A friend of mine did the math.

And we were really drunk when we came up with the idea.

9. Instead of beer, if you had bought a quarter-pound of pot with a few good seeds in it ...
... and planted those seeds, no telling where you'd be today.

Two things for sure. You'd have a bigger smile and a healthier liver.

12. Better be careful there
The Government objects to that type of entrepreneurship.

Indoor pot cultivation is on the increase, Mulligan said, because better enforcement and improved investigative techniques are driving pot growers indoors. He cites the use of law enforcement aircraft and coordination with the FDLE and the Florida National Guard as a major factor in the reduction of outdoor marijuana cultivation.

10. That's an investment my liver will appreciate.
I like how you think.

The number is a bit off. But even at a hundred bucks it isn't bad.

Funny thing is, I just spent the morning riding mountain bikes with a hedge management guy from Marin. He's not going bald, I can say without doubt. And he's totally cool. Someone's making money still. But like we both were saying, the wrong people are getting hurt in this mess.

Cheers!
