Students are having trouble finding summer jobs.
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/25/business/25teen.html?partner=rssyahoo&emc=rss

It is the worst job hunting season for students in fifty years. Ain't so great for their parents either.

With immigrants taking the low paying jobs where is there room for students? DA!!

Our government brings in immigrants and sends our manufacturing and even government jobs to third world countries. What do they think is going to happen? We all have rich uncles?

5. We have more legal immigrants then any time in our history.
The numbers are larger than the turn of the century. Those are the legal ones not the illegal ones. What effect do you think that has on finding a low paying job for the summer?

2. I'm sure it depends on the location, but what kind of jobs are they looking for?
I can tell you, my husband is a meat cutter for a supermarket chain in the SE, and they can't find ANYBODY who wants to learn that trade. The few who do wonder in quickly decide that this is just too much work, and they quit! It's NOT just the store he works in either. He spoke to a regional supervisor last week who said they can't find anyone who wants to work in the meat department at any of their stores. The pay is not spectacular, but it's not bad, and the co. is pretty good to their employees.

6. I understand they have run some ads, and I don't know about
any agency use. I have seen postings on the entrance doors though. I know one of the problems has been quite a few of the people who applied and were hired failed the drug test. As far as I know, almost every employer does drug testing. I know every company I've worked for and every one my husband worked for all did, and have been doing so for a very long time.

7. It is not the immigrants
Immigrants come to the US every day legally and with visas. The US is founded on immigrants. I bet if you looked back in your family tree, you would find an immigrant or tow or three. No, it is Not the Immigrant that is taking up all the jobs.

It is the illegal employers who hire people without visas, without SS numbers without any authority to work in these United States. They give all their jobs to people who have no right to work here because they can pay a little less. When all the employers do that, then there are no more jobs for citizens or legal immigrants.

8. This is the twenty first century not the old west days
when we had a low population. Deal with it today.

No developed country in the world allows people to flow there (even Mexico) without review and acceptance. It's dangerous policy and most Americans and new immigrants themselves oppose it.

Ya...and they don't pay taxes and fill our jails. Drug wars at the border are moving up. Go live there and see how you like it. We are being invaded. Open borders are crazy.

Do you want your lawn worker and baby sitter to work for slave labor because they are illegals? It's not fair to anyone. We were supposed to bring them up to us with NAFTA instead they flow here and destroy our labor forces. We are becoming them instead. Our leaders lie to us and them. DA!!

I just said, we have more legal immigrants in any time in our history but that still does not keep the illegals and greedy business leaders happy. They want everything for themselves. They don't care if it is destroying our country with too many too soon. They don't care about our destroyed communities and states stuck with the tax and crime burden.

9. Its NOT an immigration issue, its Human trafficking, more succinctly, 21st Century term for SLAVERY
News bulletin: For years, the US holds the title as the #1 destination country for 21st Century SLAVES.

End SLAVERY in the U.S., you will then end the alleged job shortage problem.

Ignoring the elephant in the room is a talent unique to the American public because they are seemingly willing to readily transfer blame to the victim of their government's abhorrent actions. It also appears to be true that the only time the general public become 'concern' about a social justice issue thats been pervasive for years one can usually find an associated pocketbook issue for the newly converted.

Human Trafficking & Modern-day Slavery

The United States is a source and destination country for thousands of men, women, and children trafficked for the purposes of sexual and labor exploitation. Women and girls, largely from East Asia, Eastern Europe, Mexico and Central America are trafficked to the United States into prostitution. Some men and women, responding to fraudulent offers of employment in the United States, migrate willingly-legally and illegally-but are subsequently subjected to conditions of involuntary servitude at work sites or in the commercial sex trade. An unknown number of American citizens and legal residents are trafficked within the country primarily for sexual servitude and, to a lesser extent, forced labor.
