Teachers, State Hammer Out Agreement (HI)
State lawmakers and public school teachers will hear details Monday about a new contract agreement hammered out by the state and the union. <snip>

Rodriguez says besides raises and compensation for extra hours in the classroom, a big issue is bringing back a union-run health trust that HSTA has been lobbying for for years.

"And they offer us better health benefits at lower premiums. So since we have that back in our contract now there's actually a chance that we can have that again," Rodriguez said.

He hopes this tentative agreement he helped negotiate will give more recognition and compensation to Hawaii's public school teachers. <snip>
