Any advice on where to shift retirement funds to?
I've been trying to stay on top of the economic news and trying to figure out where to stash what little retirement funds I have but frankly, I don't have the expertise.

Mostly they are distributed in stock portfolios of various degrees of risk, since I won't be retiring for a LONG time, and normally, I'm okay with looking at the longterm and riding out the slings and arrows of the market.

But, I don't things are going to be "normal" for a while, and I feel I need to change my strategy, at least until the world returns to some level of sanity. Anyone have some alternative investment sites I can check out?

Right now I'm with one of the big houses, and I get the impression they are still, over all, living in the world of "normal business", which I think we left a while ago.

I sure love the Marketwatch threads here on DU.

1. I'm putting most of mine in gold and bonds
With the deficit growing and oil unstable, the dollar will keep tanking. Get out of the stock market if you can help it.

4. I was thinking about this for a while...
This is what I am going to do. I will sell off all of my long-term bond fund and non-Maryland municipal bonds fund.

With that money, I will pay off my adjustable rate mortgage and use some as a down payment for small income generating rental property purchase. ( However, buying a property with positive cash flow requires lots of work. So be careful.)

If you still live in red states, you better move to blue states since red states may experience 'depression level recession'.

In short, for next unforeseen years, your income will most likely shrink. Therefore, best thing you can do is to cut expenses. Typically, the highest expense is mortgage and other loan payment.

When economy is growing, it makes sense to borrow money and invest. It is good to deduct mortgage interests from your income when your income is growing. That won't be a case for next unforeseen years.

Good luck.
