1. What is with that guy? Freud would have a field day.
He is deeply disturbed.

2. Horowitz: Time Was When...
Edited on Thu Dec-01-05 06:13 PM by VogonGlory
The time was when that when David Horowitz was editing Ramparts magazine back in the 1960's, Ramparts published articles that today's self-styled "conservatives" (quasi-fascists) would have condemned as unpatriotic and undermining troop morale.

I find the contemporary Horowitz's rhetoric to be contemptible and undermining the United States Constitution. Nevertheless, I sense a "Grandfather paradox" here.Could the 1960's Horowitz have been fair game for mayhem for his actions by a future Horowitz if he fell through a temporal rabbit-hole?

And another point. Does Horowtiz, like Talleyrand of old, think that treason is merely a matter of dates?

3. Horowitz is fascinating reading
I've read Radical Son and his latest non fiction, title escapes me right now. If you want to know how the other side thinks, this guy holds nothing back. What makes HIM so interesting is not just his background as a radical in the Sixties, but the fact that he is not a fundie. Very very interesting.

Of course I'm sure somebody will read this and tell me all about how he's a has-been POS, etc... but I'm a big believer that knowledge is power.

4. Horowitz: Swapping One Ideological Package For Another
I think that I read one of Horowitz's books; I forget which one. What I do remember, though, si that Horowitz seems to have swapped one ideological package (That of a Berkeley-area leftist) for another a right-wing ultramontane without stopping to consider as to whether even parts of his ideological package should and could be retained.

Horowitz, as long as he has money and a platform, isn't a has-been in my book. Maybe I'll live long enough to see him become one, though.

5. You hit the nail right on the head
he completely flipped and swapped one for the other and that is what makes him so interesting, trying to figure out what led to that.

I agree he is no hasbeen. He's still a powerful writer and has a following. Many in the RW look to him as their "intellectual."
