6. you know ......
.....that pretty much sums it up whalerider. There are some republicans with principles and compassion, I'll bet there are even republicans that didn't vote for Bush in either election. I mean, his policies haven't been very conservative or Christian at all.
But for most die-hard, librul-hatin' republicans, "I got mine and you can get yours, you lazy freeloader" seems to be the prevailing philosophy. "The business of America is business"..."What's good for business is good for America"..."Winning....is everything"..."Nice guys finish last"..."Bite first and bite hardest"..."DTAA...don't trust anybody, anytime"..."La sarde mangia la liche...the sardine eats the anchovy"..."It's a jungle and only the strong deserve to survive"..."Never give a sucker an even break"..."Life is short, mean and brutal, carpe diem"..."Who ever said life was fair?"..."We need more from a leader than a warm feeling"(heard when I said at least Carter was honest)..."You only deserve what you can take"..."Freedom ain't free"..."Hasn't everyone fucked a chicken?"..."Praise the lord and pass the ammunition"..."Kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out"..."Inside every GOOK, there's an American trying to get out"..."Life is like a grilled cheese sandwich"(thought of at lunch, never finished)..."Shoot first, ask questions later"..."You gotta break some eggs to make a freedom omelet"..."We don't do body counts"..."Just change the channel"..."You go to war with the iron maiden you have, not the one you wish you had"..."I will give up my high school campus handgun vending machine when they pry it from my cold dead hands"..."Bring 'em on!"..."God hates fags"..."If I don't grab it, someone else will"..."We're number one"..."They hate us because we're free".

4. america's a liberal democracy....
it is overwhelmingly middle or working class (thus only a few paydays from homelessness) with a large black minority, and a growing hispanic minority, also large. All this means that republicans, as a political force, represents much less of a 'base' (regardless of how active or agenda driven they are) then the democratic party, AND even if the democratic party is filled with men like lieberman, or zell miller, it's still the only national representation for ordinary non wealthy americans. The republican party is a minority party, representing a minority interest, and the demographic reality annoys and angers and provokes them....despite this BLATANT, OBVIOUS VISIBLE and OVERWHELMING FACT, the repukes have done well, generation after generation, because they do indeed hate the USA, and fukk up the political system through tireless scheming, and are its sworn enemy...just watch the mass media, and the hatred of the US is plain...

5. YES
everything from the patriot act to the freedom of the press. The destruction of the middle-class and the way they hide that behind the numbers generated for the gross national profits by corporations like walmart and haliburtion. A lot of folks aren't working and many are just squeaking by. It would take this entire text to go through everything from the tax cuts and discontinuing the inheritance tax to stopping overtime for certain workers like nurses. I can't tell you how dismayed I am about the 'values' of this administration sending this country down the drain. Look at the disdain for public school. Look at what they want to do to social Security if they could just get their hands on it. Now all the program cuts and the huge war budget putting us deep into national debt. The no bid contracts, the war profiteering, the voting fraud. The increase in pollution, global warming and the ensuing hurricanes. And the tirade of denial through the propaganda of right-wing radio and fox TV. And the claim that they are so pro family and the reality that 50% of the military families serving in these stupid wars are getting divorces. how pro-family is it to send the moms and dads out to be killed in action? For WHAT?!!!

25. Well, the Cons have always been a bunch of followers. They have
already proved they are facists. They have lied under oath when Bush and Cheney got up there and swore they would protect the Constitution almost above all. That one right there should get them impeached.

Go to PNAC. That pretty much lays their plans out for the whole world and control of it. No joke, they feel America and its government will control the World and its people. Check the site out if you haven't.

If you bring up PNAC to any Cons. they will say it is a bunch of propaganda. Well, I guess they should know because it was their sorry-ass leaders that put the think tank together in 1997 as well as posting everything they do and want online. So it's back to the typical Bush/Cheney, Inc., message . . .are you going to believe them or what is right in front of your eyes?

Also, Larry King had Billy Graham on the other night and Larry King stated Bush claimed that it was after talking with Graham that he stopped drinking and became saved. Graham said, "Well, that's what he says but that is not what I say." (he continued . . . ) "he had other influences around him such as his family and friends.

Billy Graham doesn't even want to admit that he helped to save Dumbya's soul. Now that creeps me out.

26. Followers?
Probably no more than the Democrats. I was amazed at the following the Mr. Clinton had. The only thing that surprised me more was the BushBots. I really believe that most of the elections are decided by about 10% of the voters. I figure that 10% or so vote for other no win candidates, that leaves 90%. Of that 90% 35% vote Republican and 35% VOTE Democratic with no regard for the stand that their respective candidate takes. Then there are 5% and 5% that vote for each party because they are scared of the other. That leaves about 10% who actually consider positions and have a thought out opinion. I previously fell into the 10% who voted Republican because I was afraid of the Democrats (Gun control, Abortions, etc). My view of most Democratic positions was formed by a good friend of mine who considers herself a "good old Johnson Democrat" (her words). She is rabidly anti-firearm, and once told me that a puppy that someone wanted had more value than a baby no one wanted.
I felt that Mr. Clinton was an embarrassment to our Nation, but that impeachment for personal indiscretions was ridiculous. His dealings with the Chinese government was worthy of investigation and may have risen to the level of treason – but we will never know. He seemed (to me) to view our Constitution as an obstacle to good government with regard to some issues, but held personal liberty at a premium (with the exception of firearms control). President Clinton handled our economy well and used carefully measured responses to respond to threats from abroad.
Mr. Bush has open contempt for our Constitution. When he was elected, I told my wife that we would be in Iraq within 6 months – I didn't’t miss by much. Liberty and Freedom to him are commodities to be rationed by the Federal Government. I was completely stunned and caught quite off guard when my peer group (mostly “conservatives”), became visibly hostile when I questioned why we went to Iraq. The more I brought attention to the shifting reasons for our attacking Iraq, the more I became the enemy, with a hatred of America – in their eyes. Absolutely stunning to me. These were the same people who once commented how Mr. Clinton could do anything and the Democrats would back him. Sheeple, that is what I call them – and both sides have them.
Thanks to Mr. Bush, my reluctant affiliation with the Republicans has ended. They are far more dangerous than the Democrats ever attempted to be.
Oddly enough I have found myself on the same side of many issues with my “good old Johnson Democrat” friend – many times for different reasons though. Cruising around this site last night I found that the Democrats seem to be a bit more tolerant of differing views from the “party line”.
Always being told that the Democrats were the tax and spend party, I began looking a bit at history. In the 12 Regan-Bush years we went 12 times as far in debt as we were after 200 years of being a nation. Mr. Clinton was accused of vetoing many things when his only objection was “How are we going to pay for this?”. That seems like a very responsible question to me.
Sorry for the rant – Sheeple are a pet peeve of mine.

The Republicans are obviously trying to destroy the country because they think Jesus is coming, so they don't care about saving the Earth.

11. I believe the leadership might be...
They are trying to preserve a certain aristocracy and if they have to crush a few million peasants to do that then so be it. I don't think it's direct antagonism toward the lower income people. It's just that they are in the way and can't afford to be a part of the current political structure.

12. They have been stacking the deck since day one
They're cowards, of course. They look ahead and see instability. The upper class MUST be preserved! The masses, of course, will die. This is the way they prey on the fears of Americans, rich and poor. But self-preservation (literally) becomes greed and hoarding in an instant. Fear works so well. Bush must have been such an easy sell for this strategy, because he's such an apocalyptic idiot.

I am a liberal, and your parents are conservative. We both have the same goal: Make America the best it can be. But we don't agree on how to do it.

16. I've wondered if they're really malicious, or just crazily suicidal
...because they obviously are oblivious to the fact that the damage they're doing will hurt them--and their grandkids--eventually.

I really think we should stop treating them with hostility, and treat them with the same attitude you would towards someone who was senile. (or maybe more like that kid with the powers in the Twilight Zone movie; lol)

I'm not sure if they are oblivious, or are covering their eyes with their hands and pretending that it isn't happening. Also not every Republican is evil, there are a few, albeit a very few, like McCain who actually have some moral decency.

22. Agreed, Dark.
Seriously, all you people saying that the Republicans are out to destroy the world, I hope that is said TIC (I really cannot tell on this site) because it just makes you look like a raving lunatic. They are doing what they think is right, same as you, hardly equatable with a "Nazi Dictatorship," or "Destroying the world."

Now I don't like the Republican Party just as much as most of you, but to go out and say they are trying to destroy the world? Come on, lets be civilized. Thanks to the person who actually posted some reasons, but you failed the moment you felt compelled to make a Nazi Analogy. Until they slaughter 4.5 million minorities, I will appreciate it if people would keep that comparison in their own head, as it is uncalled for and disrespectful to those who actually suffered from Hitler's regime. Whatever the Republicans may be, they are certainly nowhere near comparable to the Third Reich.

The bottom line is, just because someone doesn't agree with you, doesn't mean they are a Nazi or out to destroy the world. Something both sides need to consider every once in a while.

23. I'll cut you a break as a newbie and not hit "alert" but...
I also have a few questions for such a calm, poised DU poster. How have you coped w/this mal-administration's policies. How many months have you sought work, how many elderly parents have you cared for when their assets and mind have been stripped by chronic disease, how many sons and daughters have you sacrificed to keep from anteing up on Chinese/Saudi loans, and with such a calm demeanor, do you think you'll awake any sleeping Americans, or give a curious repuke any pause to consider that their fearless leader may just be after them and their security next?

DUers are not "lunatics." Some have been so financially ruined, mentally tormented at the thought of even their small of American responsibility to the lesser of the world's citizens, and exhausted by the constant barrage of fear, incompetency and disregard for constitutionally protected civil rights, disenfranchised and shunned from their communities, from their churches, from their doctors and families that screaming loudly and with exaggeration may ALERT and awaken the "curious" TROLL.

24. maybe both sides are trying to.
I think both sides have an equal hand in trying to mess it up. The bottom line is as long as they fight among themselves the only ones to get hurt will be the average person. He will be the one killed. The republicans or the democrats are doing a good job. You have to remember we are at war with terror and certain liberties will be lost because of it. If this country doesn't start pulling together we may just lose.
