O'Really's take on the Olympics and Canada
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,129979,00.html

"In other countries, the emphasis on self-reliance has been beaten down by nanny states and entitlement cultures. Just take a look at Australia and Canada, for example. The Aussies have 20 million people to draw from. Canada has 30 million. Yet the Aussies have 35 Olympic medals, Canada just five.

"Talking Points" believes this is reflective of the systems in those countries. Australia is a place where self-reliance is emphasized and competition is celebrated. Canada has become increasingly socialistic, as big government programs ensure everyone is marginally taken care of. I may be wrong here, but I see the entitlement culture as a force against self-discipline and motivation."

Boy Canada sure took a competitive nose dive since 2002! But those were WINTER games.

5. I may be wrong here, but I think that O'Really is an ignorant fool.
Up here in Soviet Canuckistan , the government fundings for sports have been cut drastically in the last couple of years so it's no surprise that we now have less medals.

9. Unbelievable. Remember when the USSR kicked our ass
in the medal count each year. And speaking of other forms of socialism, Nazi Germany won more medals than the Americans in 1936. Where does this idiot come up with this crap?

18. I was with you until you included Nazi Germany as an example of "socialism"
Edited on Thu May-01-08 08:04 AM by Ken Burch
The "Hitler was a socialist" meme was created by right-wing libertarians to falsely incriminate the left in Nazism. Don't buy it. The very idea is an insult to the hundreds of thousands of socialists and communists who were slaughtered by the Nazis, and who were responsible for one of the great early antifascist anthems:

Die Moorsoldaten(March of The Peat Bog Soldiers)

Peat Bog Soldiers

Far and wide as the eye can wander,
Heath and bog are everywhere.
Not a bird sings out to cheer us.
Oaks are standing gaunt and bare.

We are the peat bog soldiers,
Marching with our spades to the moor.
We are the peat bog soldiers,
Marching with our spades to the moor.

Up and down the guards are marching,
No one, no one can get through.
Flight would mean a sure death facing,
Guns and barbed wire block our view.

We are the peat bog soldiers,
Marching with our spades to the moor.
We are the peat bog soldiers,
Marching with our spades to the moor.

But for us there is no complaining,
Winter will in time be past.
One day we shall rise rejoicing.
Homeland, dear, you're mine at last.

No more the peat bog soldiers
Will march with our spades to the moor.
No more the peat bog soldiers
Will march with our spades to the moor.

Lyrics by Johann Essler and Wolfgang Langhoff

Music by Rudi Gogol,

All three of whom were interned at the Borgermoor camp for political detainees near Borgermoor, Germany
in 1933.

Never Forget.
No Pasaran!
Another World Is Possible.
Another America is NECESSARY.

11. O'Reilly is an unbelievable dumbass
Canada and Australia are very similar when it comes to forms of gov't and social benefit programs.

If anything, the Aussies are much more socialistic when it comes to sports funding. Canada definitely needs to increase its sports funding. That said, Australia will always outperform Canada at summer sports due to their obvious climatic advantages and Canada will outperform Australia at Winter sports for the same reason.

O'Reilly has a hate-hard-on for Canada and it's causing him to blabber utter nonsense. Fuck off O'Reilly, we don't give a shit what you have to say!

12. USA - 103 medals
pop:290million - 1 medal/2.82million
Russia - 92 medals, pop.145million. 1 medal/1.57million

Bill Blows Nightly needs to shut his mouth occasionally. Actually, the most successful team in relation to the size of the population it was drawn from was Barbados. USA ranked 40. Perhaps Shill So Shitely could take a look at this:

20. BO'R is wrong of course but
Barbados has a population of about 270,000, which is less than 1/1000 of the USA's population.

The problem with medals per capita is that the large countries like ours and China can win every single medal possibly available to one country at an Olympics (gold, silver and bronze in all individual events and 1 medal in team sports like basketball or hockey, which no country has ever gotten even close to) and a small country like Barbados just has to win like 1 or 2 medals TOTAL to have a better medals/million ratio. So it's not a bad thing that we are not the top in this category.

But O'reilly is an idiot as usual. In the last Summer games, Austrailia won 49 medals, good for 4th place behind only USA (103), Russia (92), and China (63). In the last Winter games, Canada won 24 medals, good for 3rd place behind only USA (24) and Germany (29). Both countries are doing excellently at their natural olympic sports, showing no difference based on O'reilly's imagined political differences between the two.

16. O'Reilly fires another shot at Canada
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,140742,00.html

"The fall of religion in Canada has corresponded to the rise in progressive public policy. Most Canadians now favor gay marriage. The age of consent for sex is 14 years. That means if you're an adult and you have sex with a 15-year-old, that's fine.

Welfare's double what it is in the USA. And the Canadian military is almost non-existent.

Drug decriminalization is a reality, as is any kind of abortion. The Canadian model is what progressive Americans are shooting for. Thus, Christian displays like Christmas must be scaled back because the connection with Judeo-Christian beliefs is bad for the secular agenda.

Now most people, of course, love Christmas and want to keep its traditions, but the secular movement has influence in the media, among some judges and politicians. Americans will lose their country if they don't begin to take action. Any assault on Judeo-Christian philosophy should be fought."

17. wow...
Yeah, God forbid everyone be "marginally taken care of". Far better that people starve to death or old folks freeze in the winter because they can't afford their medicine and their heat.
What a mean spirited person. I just can't comprehend thinking like that.
