My nightmare scenario for the election.
OK, folks... Want to know what keeps this rabble-rouser awake at night?

What happens if we win the popular vote on November 2nd, and even, win just enough of the electoral vote to unseat Bush, but, one of the states we believe we have won has a state legislature controlled by the GOP and GOP governor?

The governor then calls the legislature into session, and they slate GOP electors, disregarding the popular vote and the slate that was thus elected on November 2nd.

Before you laugh, know that the Florida legislature was poised to do just that if "Bush v. Gore" had gone against them in the Supreme Court.

I can imagine Texas doing just this sort of thing as well.

1. Congress has to vote to "accept" the electors as presented by each state
After that, all hell would break loose.

2. And this GOP controlled congress would fail to do so?
I think not.

4. I don't know what could save us
The Dems could walk out and prevent a caucus vote. The Dems could only use that technique to buy time and force some pressure on the states.

I think the voting procedure is different than legislative procedure. Maybe there would be hope, but I don't know the details.

7. It is unconstitutional. The Constitution clearly states that the election
of the president is to occur on the same day throughout the United States. Voting a slate of electors "after the fact" by the legislature would violate the Constitution. I don't believe the Florida Legislature's ploy in 2000 would have held up either if the recount had gone to Gore. But it turned out to be a moot point when SCOTUS stopped the recount.

8. I like the WhiteRoseSociety...as for the rest of your post..
DEAR GOD, PLEASE SAY IT AIN'T SO............. But then, nothing the Bush Cartel tries to do could ever surprise me.

I don't know about anyone else, but I see this gang as a REAL threat. They aren't just playing politics to get their names into the history books. These guys have an insidious agenda and they MEAN it; they don't give a fig about the constitution, politics, parties, law or anything else that might rain on their parade. They are into dictatorships............Even if we get them out of the white house this time, they aren't just going to disappear. They will lurk around stirring up crap at every turn. Waiting for their next chance to take over something. They are a fungus I tell ya!!

9. I'm a student of 20th century history; when I started,
my focus was strictly World War II. As I got older, I began to look into the origins of that war, which lead me to the study of Nazi Germany and Adolf Hitler. I can state, with complete confidence in my stated position, that the curreent Administration is nothing but a mirror-image of the Nazis! If you seek proof, there are many reputable studies on the subject I can recommend, if anyone's interested.

10. fdr, no historical examples needed
As a fellow student of history, I have seen the "Administrations" actions as Nazi/Fascist since Bush was Governor of my Beloved State. I can also say, as a German American, if the Bushies expect me to goose-step and say "Zeig-Heil" THEY ARE SADLY MISTAKEN! I would rather die than repeat my ancestors mistakes.
