there is a paper trail - why act like there is a problem. Just show the paperwork - end of story.

2. From the blog:
"So if I were a reporter sitting in the White House press room, asking questions of Scott McClellan, I'd start asking about his pay records, retirement records, and tax records from 1972. Maybe the attendance records are gone -- but there are still plenty of ways to document the President's service."

But they won't. Too many wussies.

This is not the story of a search for missing records. We have the pertinent records.

This is not a hunt for credible eyewitnesses and first hand statements. The officers involved have stepped forward. We have their testimony and we have the signed statements of those no longer living.

This is the story of how George Walker Bush walked away from a years duty while in the National Guard.

And, this is the story of how he has thus far gotten away with it.

Now that you know that the documents exist, perhaps you could email this fact to Dana Priest at the Washington Post

priestd@washpost.com

I bet she'd be interested.

6. I believe that the MOST important part of the AWOL story...
is not even whether he was AWOL or not (he most likely was). It is really the overwhelming evidence of preferential treatment he received because of his family name. Skipping over hundreds of higher test scoring applicants, to get into the Air National Guard, which most people know was THE best way to avoid combat in Vietnam, and then as if that was not enough, having the audacity, let alone the ability to even shirk those limited responsibilites to go work on more peaceful pursuits such as a political campaign during a time of war, and you might as well start packing the bananas for the trip back to Crawford for that chimpychump!

7. There are other ways to explore this issue
I am sure allot of document scrubbing happened behind the scenes.
There is enough evidence to indicate a pattern of unsatisfactory and non compliant behaviors.

AWOL for more that 30 days is desertion.

8. that would be easy enough but
I do not think Utopia is where we are at. There are paper trails for alot of blunders both Dem and Rep. but it's what the media will do with it If they ignore the issue then the blunder goes into oblivion
where Bush is at

9. Check out this excerpt from SOLON - its NOT going away

Being well connnected can have advantages.

snip

From SOLON today

Feb. 5, 2004  |  In 1972, George W. Bush simply walked away from his pilot duties in the Texas Air National Guard. He skipped required weekend drill sessions for many months, probably for more than a year, and did not take a mandatory annual physical exam, which resulted in his being grounded. Nonetheless, Bush, the son of a well-connected Texas congressman, received an honorable discharge.

Even desertion can be smoothed over if you come from the right family.
