Jean Shepherd - A Great American Voice

http://www.flicklives.com/

"Jean Shepherd was born July 26, 1921 and passed away October 16, 1999. During those years he achieved a level of success which many have compared to that of Mark Twain. The books, the movies, and over 5,000 hours of radio in New York alone is an achievement that is not realized in a lifetime by many people, and Shep did it all without missing a stride. Memories of his timeless work linger with those who knew him, like the childhood stories he loved to tell. And even today, as you listen to one of his old shows from the sixties, it's like he's never left."

You owe it to yourself to listen to some of his shows!!!

3. Ollie Hopnoodles Haven Of Bliss
I love that movie even more than Christmas Story.

PBS had a series of Shepherd programs in the 70's. I think they were called Jean Shepherd's America. They would make a great DVD collection.

5. I used to watch "Jean Shepherd's America" series with my Dad when
I was a kid in the 1970s. That would make a great DVD collection, I agree.

4. I suffered through the living in the south
and survived mainly because I could tune Shep in every night on WOR out of New York, good old AM radio. Between Shep and Stan Freburg, I managed to keep enough sanity to see me through escaping the south as soon as I managed to save enough cash to get me the hell out of there.

I lift a glass of Nehi grape soda to the memory of Shep, Shwartz, Flick and Bruner. May they live forever in our hearts.

6. I remember Shep
When I was a kid I listened to him on WOR every night when I went to bed.

It's probably why I grew up so twisted, heh-heh.

7. OMG I DID TOO!
I stuck a transistor AM radio under my pillow so my folks couldn't hear it.

In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash.

I miss him dearly.:-(

8. Jean Shepherd did an incredible live show at my high school
in the early 1970s. I think he did it as a favor to his then-producer, who was a graduate of the school. What a wonderful night. My face actually ached from laughing so much.
