http://www.doonesbury.com/strip/blowback/index.htmlWell, I went to check on how people were responding to BD getting wounded. Most of them were along these lines.
Your 4/19 strip where BD is hit...maybe more...is statesmanlike in quality. It puts a finger of reality into the cold news of today, and contrasts starkly with the blather from the White House. With this strip you have made up for a multitude of cheap shots at incumbent presidents and other dimwitted ideas. You are definitely my hero today. I salute you on behalf of those who know that war and empire are not the solutions to our problems.
As Gen. Robert E. Lee said, "It is a good thing war is so terrible, or we should love it too much." For those who have not experienced it personally, and seem to love it way too much, I say, "Try it." and
Kudos to you for taking on the issue of our combat wounded. I am recently separated from the military, I work now as a contractor supporting our military, but I have not seen enough attention paid to the hardships our men and women face.
I don't generally agree with your politics--I'm usually to the right of Genghis Khan--but I wanted to thank you for what you are showing with this week's strip! But then we people like this butt-munch.
I'm sorry to hear about the plan to have a someone lose a leg in combat in your strip. I was hoping that all the persons in your strip would take a trip to Iraq, point out the troubles and problems the Iraqis have with the so-called U.S. occupation. Then I hoped they would be taken hostage by terrorists and executed. That way, we could be free of your obvious political cartoon segments. Of course Gary is "making a buck" on the suffering of our country and our soldiers. He also shouldn't be "using this for political ends"...blah, blah, blah...
Read 'em and enjoy.
