Going AWOL doesn't preclude you from getting an honorable discharge. You spend time in the brig, or you make up the lost time some other way.

The point is that if you're AWOL it should appear on your permanent record. It doesn't disqualify you from an honorable discharge, just like it doesn't disqualify you from being sent into a war zone.

In Judy's case, it's a matter of both stupidity AND covering for bush.

The question is this: was bush AWOL? End of story. What is shrub's answer? Produce the paper trail and exonerate yourself.

If George W. got into the Texas Air National Guard based on a preference, couldn't he also get an honorable discharge which other soldiers who went AWOL for 7-17 months couldn't have gotten?

It's like saying that because Republican Bill Janklow wasn't sentenced to prison (he will serve about 90 days in jail) after he broke the speed-limit for the millionth time and killed a man, therefore Janklow couldn't have done much wrong.

There is one standard of justice for the well-connected, and another for the rest of us.

the repugs are taking a tact similar to a college student who tells a potential employer he was a straight-A medical school, the employer investigates and finds out that the guy was really a PE major and a C student...and then the student's defenders say "what's the problem, he graduated, didn't he?"
