AP carries picture of coffins
The picture comes from an Air Force photo.

For the Pentagon to allow this photo to be released, is this part of the Pentagon plan to prepare us for resuming a more active military role in Afghanistan?

My local paper (Atlanta Journal) carried the picture on page 3.

Eight flag-draped cases, one for each of the soldiers killed in an explosion at a weapons cache near the city of Ghazni, 60 miles southwest of Kabul, Afghanistan on Jan. 29, 2004, await transport home in a U.S. Air Force 5th Airlift Squadron C-17 aircraft on Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at Bagram Airforce Base, in Bagram, Afghanistan. 6. If you notice, this photo is from troops who died in Afghanistan
and that is the "acceptable war". That is the real war on terrorism. While I agree this is news, I will believe censorship will have changed when they show the flag draped coffins coming home from Iraq. Somehow I don't think that will ever happen.

7. I see a "bait" aspect to publishing this picture.
Anti-war folks clamor "Yes, but where are the pictures of coffins from Iraq?"

so the war-mongers can say "See? They want troop fatalities in Iraq. Liberals don't support the soldiers."

8. Cleveland Plain Dealer places the 8 flag-draped coffins on pg. 1
Front and center.

Can anyone tell me who these media people take their marching orders from?
