Jon Stewart's version of Interview With The Vampire (Perle)
I originally had some misgivings about watching this segment, but did, and was impressed. JS showed a sufficient mastery of the material to draw Perle out and get him to elaborate on policy, yet kept the atmosphere light and humorous. Truthfully, I can't imagine a watchable interview with Perle by anyone else.

As for the content, strangely enough, I found myself thinking that Perle resembled Kissenger in having a brutal yet pragmatic policy, which made a kind of sense if one doesn't mind violating every shred of international protocol and human rights to accomplish it. Sort of like the Kaiser's push for Liebensraum in 1914. But when JS asked Perle "Why not just use this as the explanation for taking over Iraq?", and he had to shift the answer back to uncertainty over WMDs, it was clear that even with the book published, Perle isn't quite ready for primetime with his doctrine of pre-emptive exampling. The discussion of Saudi Arabia was surprising, I have to wonder how many of his colleagues Perle managed to piss off by discussing conflicts of interest with Jon.

Interesting, almost too interesting. Is Jon turning into Bill Moyers lite?

4. The Saudi influence in the beltway
So you have on the one hand a country that's funding a lot of the terrorism and providing a breeding ground for the Wahabi sect, and on the other, this same country has a very powerful lobby with the DC capitalists that keeps them safe from the invasion they so richly deserve.

2. Bill Moyers lite?
I laugh in your face!

Bill Moyers is Jon Stewart lite!

Seriously, Jon has had some incredible R/W and L/W heavyweights as well as celebrities for guests and he seems to be even better when he's dealing on that level than when he sometimes has to force a laugh for a bud.

BTW, anyone see Edwards on Bill Maher's Real Time? Even nasty Maher was charmed!!

3. Notice he said who was next if they did not fall in line.

7. Think third chakra, fourth chakra
"As for the content, strangely enough, I found myself thinking that Perle resembled Kissenger in having a brutal yet pragmatic policy, which made a kind of sense if one doesn't mind violating every shred of international protocol and human rights to accomplish it."

I saw George Will speak once and had the same impression. Arguing with these people on their own terms is hard, they are pure Machiavellians. What has to be done is to inject a different perspective, like the fourth chakra, which is the Heart.

REAL journalists tow the republican party line.
REAL journalists know how to softball republicans.
REAL journalists know when to shout over their interview subjects.
REAL journalists get talking points memos straight from Karl Rove.

Jon Stewart is a wonderfully, magically, fantastically unreal journalist.
