Comcast drops MSNBC from my basic cable lineup
along with the history channel and AMC. Of course you can still get Faux news and CNN. This happened several weeks ago. I'm in NJ.

2. This is usually the result of the channel in question insisting on more money per subscriber...
Edited on Sun Jul-19-09 09:08 PM by Mythsaje
And the only way this can be done is changing the tier in which the channel is included.

On edit: The only way Comcast can live up to its contractual obligations with MSNBC (which is one of the more expensive news channels in terms of contractual cost) while leaving it in a lower tier would be by raising the rates of basic subscribers by $2.00 a month.

6. My mom made them rip out her just-installed FIOS when she found out
They didn't carry MSNBC with Olbermann and Maddow. Went right back to Direct TV.

7. Same happened to us (also NJ) with Cablevision
So we're still paying the same "Family" rate, but for far fewer channels. Not the first time that's happened, BTW.

To get MSNBC and the History Channel, etc. back, you need more equipment, installation charges may apply, yadda yadda.

As much as I miss KO, Rachel, and Ed, I'm not forking over any more $$$ to those crooks.

8. MSNBC has never been part of their basic cable lineup here in Georgia.

CNN yes. Faux yes. Even CNBC.

MSNBC you have to go up two package levels to get.

10. They dropped MSNBC here in Ohio over a year ago
you have to pay extra for digital TV and a box to get MSNBC now.

11. Have you called them?
I'm in the Philly suburbs and the same thing happened to me. They are trying to move everyone to digital. They gave me three digital converters at no charge and with no increase in my monthly payment. With the converters I can get MSNBC, History, and AMC again plus a few things that I couldn't get before, including CSPAN 2 and 3. :)

I can't guarantee that the situation is the same for you but call them and ask.

16. Just went through the same thing. Still trying to figure out the damn remote - too complicated
for my oldster brain.

I also got three "free" converters and am (theoretically) able to get the stations I did before (on the cheap tier).

Is something set up wrong or am I NOT supposed to be able to "enter" a channel number and go directly to it? I can scroll up and down, but cannot jump directly to any channel I want WITHOUT going to the Guide, finding the channel I want, then hitting enter to go there. Funny, but on the "secondary" units, the number-entry thing works - just not on the primary unit.

Oh well, progress is progress, I guess.

17. If you have the same remote as me...
after you enter the channel number IMMEDIATELY hit the OK/Select key. You have to do it immediately, while the entered channel number is still on the screen.

Keep in mind, also, that it takes a few seconds for it to change channels, so be patient after entering the number and hitting OK. That's one of the drawbacks of digital versus analog and takes some getting used to.

you. Now to convince her of that delay thing.

19. You're welcome.
The delay does take some getting used to. Your instinct is to try again and again when it doesn't immediately change but that just makes things worse.

20. It's faster to use the "LAST" button to toggle between two stations.
Much faster than entering a number on the remote.

21. MSNBC IS NOT CARRIED IN MANY AREAS..NOT FAIR AND BALANCED
I am grinding my teeth over the fact that MANY areas do not carry MSNBC. WHY? As a travel nurse, I travel from state to state and do so quite frequently. Mostly what I do is work, sleep, and WATCH NEWS...MSNBC first, CNN next, and a few minutes of FOX to see what crazy things they will lie about on any given day. However, if you do not travel you may not know that FOX is everywhere. and so is CNN or HLN. I have just returned from Lake Charles, LA which is another city that does not have MSNBC. How can VOTERS get BALANCED NEWS if we can only hear the RIGHT WING EXTREMEST? If one has the option of both, I think the information balances out. Does anyone know what the percentage of coverage is for MSNBC vs FOX NEWS?

22. MSNBC's Ed Schultz Coming to Colorado!
I know! It SUCKS that I can get CNN and Fox Noise, but not MSNBC unless I pay extra.

I have to go to a friend's house to watch Ed Schultz, Rachel, Keith, et al.

Just heard today that Ed Schultz is coming to Colorado August 30. Tickets are almost sold out and his gig was just announced!

See details on his website.
