something that's sticking in my craw today ...
Palin refers to being a "lame duck" ...

usually, that refers to an office-holder who is in their last term of office ... Alaska has a two-term limit ... (then they can run again after a period of time) ...

um ...

Caribou Barbie hasn't even completed her first term, and she's a "lame duck"??? Even if you refer to "lame duck" as someone who lost their re-election bid, SHE HASN'T FACED A SECOND ELECTION for Governor!!!

Is she trying to re-write history and convince people/the "liberal media" that she won a second term???

2. She is an idiot
That is why she agreed to run for VP. No one else would do it.

3. "Lame Duck" Can Refer to Different Situations
A lame duck is an elected official who is approaching the end of his or her tenure, and especially an official whose successor has already been elected.

The status can be due to

-having lost a re-election bid
-choosing not to seek another term at the expiration of the current term
-a term limit which keeps the official from running for that particular office again
-the abolishment of the office, which must nonetheless be served out until the end of the official's term.1

Lame duck officials tend to have less political power, as other elected officials are less inclined to cooperate with them. However, lame ducks are also in the peculiar position of not facing the consequences of their actions in a subsequent election, giving them greater freedom to issue unpopular decisions or appointments

The theme appears to be having a limited future in the office. So I think it's perfectly appropriate for her situation.

4. and only one of those appear to be remotely applicable ...
and only if she announced that she wasn't going to run for a second term ... I don't recall her saying she wouldn't run for a second term ...

I just think she's stretching it trying to get sympathy by calling herself (or Faux referring to her as) a "lame duck" ...

5. She quit 5 colleges in 6 years to get a BS degree
Quitting is her nature, so her whole persona is that of a lame duck.

6. The term 'Lame Duck' is not
the generally accepted legal definition for Palin's self induced exit from the office of Governor.

http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Lame+Duck

An elected official, who is to be followed by another, during the period of time between the election and the date that the successor will fill the post.

The term lame duck generally describes one who holds power when that power is certain to end in the near future. In the United States, when an elected official loses an election, that official is called a lame duck for the remainder of his or her stay in office. The term lame duck can apply to any person with decision-making powers, but it is usually refers to presidents, governors, and state and federal legislators.
