2. Because he told a joke that fools misinterpreted & deliberately misrepresented to other fools.

And if a joke needs to be explained to someone, they won't think it's funny.

Of course, for Palin it was never about the joke & always about getting free airtime at the expense of her children.

4. You mean - Palin doesn't have a slutty flight attendant look?
Edited on Tue Jun-16-09 07:03 AM by geckosfeet
I have to say, I have seen many flight attendants. Very few were as slutty looking as Palin.

Just my opinion.

6. Why do the words "slutty" and "flight attendant" have to be in the same sentence, anyway?
I feel for all of the flight attendants who have to live down the "Coffee, Tea, or Me?" stereotype. Given the actions of the flight crew that saved all those lives a few months ago in the Hudson River, I would hope that they would be respected as the safety professionals they are trained and ready to be.

5. I'm sure that CBS heard the heat from their older viewers
and had a little 'chat' with Dave over the weekend. We even had a NY legislator who called for firing Letterman.

Sometimes, it's appropriate to apologize for things. If he had done it a week earlier, this story wouldn't have grown the legs it's been running with.

7. or...CBS to Dave: 'great ratings ploy...Conan gets no pub....'
I seriously doubt that anyone at CBS told the cash cow ANYTHING....

8. Well, I presume the network bigwigs have been hearing from people...
and since CBS likes to skew to an older demographic, they were afraid of giving offense, even if the target was Caribou Barbie. An apology is cheap, and it gets the matter over with.

It wouldn't surprise me if some advertisers put some pressure on the network as well, they absolutely do not want their products sullied with any form of controversy.

11. The Letterman demographic does not skew older
and I never said that it did, but CBS's audience has a larger percentage of older people. No doubt some have been inflamed by this brouhaha, and have written letters, or even emails.

Happy to admit that Letterman's doing fine, ratings-wise (to me, he's way funnier than Conan) but all I was talking about was the pressure that may well have been brought to bear on Dave this last weekend, that led to the Monday apology.

9. There was call for Letterman to be removed from the air
And there was supposed to be a protest demanding that in front of CBS in NY today.

The faux outrage from the right is getting on my last nerve, especially since ALL the M$M outlets run with it ad nauseum and ignore things that are actually important and worth covering.
