MILF on TV Guide?
Somehow TV Guide got hold of my email address and every day - more or less - I get an email from them about the recent news from TV programs. In most cases I just delete them, unless there is something new about "Lost," or "House" - which that message had.

But I was taken aback by their story with the headline:

The Hottest TV MILFs (at least, after hanging around on DU, I think that I know what this acronym stands for)

http://www.tvguide.com/PhotoGallery/TV-MILFs-1006600/1.aspx

Is this what they are putting on their supposedly print "family publication?"

OK, start flaming. I just think that there is a time and place for different things and, yes, this term is offensive.

1. eh...
The term doesn't bother me, in the right context. TV guide isn't that context. But who reads TV guide anymore, anyway? I mean, my cable box tells me what's on, and when. And reviews and such I can get from the intarwebz.

10. I didn't even know TV Guide still existed.
Doesn't everyone just go online now or else look at the menu on their TV?

13. No. Certainly not the four millions, or so with analog TVs
who, unless they got the converter boxes, will not be able to see anything (and thus TV Guide would be irrelevant, of course).

We too often take for granted that every single household is "connected" to Cable TV or to the Internet. I don't have stats, but many are not. Or had to cancel it during the past several months.

3. It's their editorial decision, I suppose
They run of risk or offending some while intriguing others.

But wow, have times changes. I'm hearing MILF more and more on the airwaves.

4. I don't think the term is especially "offensive"...
But I do feel it's highly inappropriate for a family publication.

(that said, I agree with most of their selections)

5. Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
No, I didn't know that until I Binged it.

The word seems to have cleaned itself up since it's American Pie acronym days, and is seen by some as a compliment towards an attractive mother, because you know, women always feel complimented when told a man would like to have sex with them.

6. Maybe a bit much for TV Guide
but that picture of Mary Louise Parker would become my desktop if I wasn't afraid my wife would see it. ;-)

guide that is 99% accurate.

In addition, you can go online and get full TV listings for your area, including stuff that TV Guide doesn't publish in print, like full episode information as well as all the guest actors on that episode.

14. Same here but, no doubt, some still do
I think that TV Guide switched to stories about shows, actors, "spoilers" from the simple scheduling.

15. Again with America's anorexic mania
I'm not impressed with their list.

Nor with the puritanical aspect of the OP for that matter, but that's another matter altogether.

In any case, the closest I came to agree with them is with Mrs. Bundy.

Remember the Dove commercial?

That's what we need back on America's so called mainstream TV...in my humble opinion.

16. I'm holding out for a Republican cougars edition of People magazine.

Cindy McCain should get top honors. Greedy, smug, self-satisfied, callous... she has those great Republican attributes, although on the downside she seems pretty modern and socially easygoing in outlook, unlike the admirably paradoxical traditional values Republican cougars such as Michele Bachmann, Katherine Harris, and Sarah Palin.

17. Is this for the printed version of the guide or the online version?
If the latter, perhaps there are looser standards than for a publication which will be sitting next to the Reader's Digest in the checkout stand.
