I never thought I would ever see that event lauded like this. Finally!

2. As a matter of fact, acts like Smith and Carlos would be banned

today, already we have seen athletes told to STFU about Tibet when they compete in China, and try to be politically controversial in today's sports climate. The NFL would rather have clowns like Terrel Owens or Chad Johnson, MLB would rather deal with the Barry Bonds and the Roger Clemons, than with someone who may stand up in politics.

5. People follow sports as a break from politics.
The NFL has fined Chad Johnson's ass.

4. Of course it is because sports has become a commodity to bring money/power to those who run things.
Not knowing the history of the awards, I wonder who past winners have been. But having Samuel L Jackson as the presenter was perfect.

Extra bonus - it'll drive the Freeper sports nuts crazy.

3. The ESPY's honors athletes. Carlos and Smith were athletes.
"Really surprising.....I get a latent conservative vibe from ESPN typically"

No doubt, ESPN and ABC are joined at the hip, owned by Disney.
Last week Mike and Mike (Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic) the morning radio personalties on ESPN radio broadcast the T-Ball game on the White House lawn, and they went on and on about the monkey and the secret service and frankly, I had to turn it off.
Ugh...

Carlos and Smith are iconic figures, and should not be ignored but let's face it.
ESPN is a money making endeavor (and they make TONS of it) so I'm sure they think of it simply as an investment.
The whore networks don't care where the cash comes from, as long as it continues to flow.
Shit, if the election was tomorrow and Barack won by a landslide it would not surprise me a bit to see Fox News spin on a dime and try to make a play for Rachel Maddow.

Money, Money, Money.
