Yes! SoCal PBS station saved from the fundies!
Edited on Thu Oct-16-03 04:12 PM by KamaAina
In last week's episode, we learned that KOCE, the PBS station in Orange County, was on the verge of being sold to religious broadcasters who were going to pull some sort of shady frequency swap with a satellite company.

Now, at the last minute, the station's fundraising arm came up with enough money to save it from becoming another dollar-a-holler outlet for 24/7/365 hellfire and brimstone with a heavy dose of liberal-bashing.

Alas, all I can find is a nasty registration-only link from the O.C. Register:

http://passport.ocregister.com/passport/entity/ocrcom/denied.jsp?duri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww2.ocregister.com%2Focrweb%2Focr%2Farticle.do%3Fid%3D61825%26section%3DLOCAL%26subsection%3DLOCAL%26year%3D2003%26month%3D10%26day%3D16

Aside: I hate registration. Am I really supposed to register with a different website every time something happens in a particular city?

Edit: The battle now shifts to NYC, where WNYE is about to be sold to the larger WNET in a back-room deal. WNET is certainly preferable to fundies, but you'd think that New York -- the center of the media universe -- could support more than one public broadcaster.

Again, here's your registration-only link, this one from the Times:

1. well, now maybe we can
get something better than lawrence welk on KOCE - U think I'm kidding? I'd support this station if they carried NOW or POV. KOCE has THE worst programming of any public station I have lived around.
