1. segment makes my flesh crawl, but it's important that Al does it.
It's something the right doesn't do--show respect for the other side.

But I couldn't take it more than once a week, and even then, I have to tune out, not because he has any good arguments, but because of the lazy, second hand prejudice that makes it clear how easily the right could be pushed over the edge into going Hutu on us.

2. Yeah, I voted seldom. I was looking for that
weekly option but didn't see it.

I'm solidly in the Malloy camp about "showing
respect for the other side." I think it's a waste
of time. The other side would put us all in
death camps if they could.

And no, I'm not joking.

6. If you were talking about Rush, O'Reilly, or Hannity themselves...
yes.

But this is just some regular schmuck that listens to those guys, so he might change his mind.

That's not likely to happen with those who are paid to parrot the talking points they get faxed every morning.

7. I always suspected that Luther was being paid for this.
That he wasn't taking Al's daily abuse out of
the goodness of his heart.

He can't defend Rush's positions. Most of the
time it was "Al, you're right."

And with the intractibility of his "devotion" to
Rush given the way Al just destroys the pigman,
nothing else makes sense. To me anyway.

3. Well put.

Wonder if his friend had to chose between "his old friend" Al and his beliefs, which way would he go. When it came right down to it, I'd bet Mark Luther would turn on Al in a heartbeat.

4. Know your enemy
I think he should be heard every day. Sad that limbaugh has fans but they aren't going away. We will never get rid of them or convert them without understanding them. If Franken ends this segment, it just makes the point we are also intolerant to the other views. Could you image Limbaugh having a daily debate with a liberal friend? Plus he could be interesting when they start to turn on each other.

5. It's not a "debate." That's the whole point.

Have you ever listened to the segment? Al nails the DH
daily with Rush's bullshit, and every day Luther comes
back still a dittohead, even though...

Oh, nevermind.

Please see post #2 re: my feelings about being "reasonable"
with these people.

9. Well, Fox News interviews liberals.

Sure, our side is given inept representatives, but this guy ain't any better. So I see no problem with the segments. Maybe they don't need to be on every day, but it's gotta be tough to fill three hours.

As for Limbaugh, no, I honestly can't see him having the guts to do this. But that guy is in a class of his own. This is guy who seriously thinks that the best way to deal with nukes is to "use 'em."
