Dan Rather was the only one not to cover Chandra Levy
and he caught a lot of shit for it...

http://www.cnn.com/2001/ALLPOLITICS/08/13/billpress.column/

WASHINGTON (Tribune Media Services) -- The summer of 2001 will be remembered for many momentous events, such as when George W. Bush started t-ball games on the South Lawn; or when Rush Limbaugh re-signed for $245 million worth of hot air; or when Mariah Carey checked herself into a mental hospital.

But, most of all, it will be remembered as the time when the American media, once and for all, destroyed its own reputation for objectivity and integrity. It will be remembered as the “Summer of Chandra Levy” and a textbook case of media overkill. Both in print and on television, the press managed to turn the Levy case into a sleazy summer novel -- with just as many cheap thrills, and just as few actual facts.

<snip>

In the middle of the media madness, one level head survives. Of all the networks, only CBS News and Dan Rather refused to join the Chandra rush because, said Rather, he preferred to stick to “decent, responsible journalism.” It’s nice to know there’s one left.

1. Chandra Levy was just the beginning of a very long stream of
media stories about women being killed and dumped. It hasn't stopped yet. Having a story reported is a good thing. Having it repeated, and repeated, and repeated, at the exclusion of the rest of the stories in the world, makes me wonder why. Are they trying to feed into murder fantasies of the mentally ill? These stories must be like watching porn for free for them.

Personally, in our house, whenever Kobe Bryant, Michael Jackson, and other 'high profile' cases come on tv (hmm, that's like every 15 minutes or so, isn't it?) we change the channel. Let the juries decide, then report that. Stop filling the airwaves!

I've heard this comment about my picture before, usually when I post something pro-gay! Haha!

6. You be surprised how many smart people....
love those dramatizations on TV over real political issues that concern their lives. My girlfriend from church is smart, earns good money, wonderful Mom and wife, leader in the church, but she only knows how to argue three things; 1) religion, 2)Real Life Drama Shows, 3)Drama court cases, Kobey, OJ, chandra, Kennedy, Laci...etc.

You can ask her anything about the government or to name the vice president and she's not sure or doesn't know.

8. Dan told Letterman one night
(Letterman & Rather are good friends)that it was just gossip in the very begining & he said he was surprised the other networks were speculating not reporting. In gained alot of respect for Dan Rather then & beleieve I was & still am no fan of Gary Condit!
