Focus on the Family writer impersonates Vietnam Vet.
Over at South Knox Bubba's blog, we recently had a troll come a visiting. Known by the name Mojoman, he claimed to be a Vietnam vet. He was very conservative, very pro Bush, and firmly believed John Kerry to have served less than honorably. He was there constantly on his first day, and was making no sense.

He used a flippant remark, "one shot, one hill" in one post, which raised my doubts. I had never heard a Vietnam vet sound so casual about his service. I started researching the first part of his email name "frontrangewriter," and found that it had appeared following a few articles written by Tom Neven. Tom's bio, pulled from another Christian magazine he edits for, matched a few of his claims; Marine service for 7 years and post graduate degree. A few things did not match up, one was Vietnam service.

The writer for Focus on the Family, a very conservative christian organization, claims he served in Vietnam. However, he was a member of the class of 1975 from Seabreeze High School in Florida. That would make him too young to have served in Vietnam.

(He also claimed he went to High School with the Allman Brothers. Same school but Tom was about 10 years too late. Bad southerner!)

The owner of the site, SKB, checked out the ISPs Mojoman was posting from, and it was Focus on the Family's server during the day. At night he was posting from and Adelphi server, which they do not have in England- which is where Mojoman claimed to be right now.

More information is available at SKB's in this post.

Our troll's bio:

"Tom Neven has worked in newspapers, magazines and books for 20 years. He has written and edited for, among others, The Washington Post, Time-Life Books, Reader's Digest Books, Focus on the Family magazine, and The Denver Post. After serving seven years in the Marine Corps, Tom earned a BA in philosophy, magna cum laude, from Wheaton College and an MA in journalism from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. He met his wife, Colette, in Switzerland, where they were married in December 1981. They have two children, Joshua and Hannah."

Family values, eh?

Do check out SKB.

3. You betcha!
Wheaton College is fundie central. My daughter almost hired a Wheaton grad as a nanny until I pointed out that the girl would find it impossible to avoid trying to save the baby for Jesus. Now she's started asking nanny candidates if they talk about religion with their charges, to avoid raving rapturites.

kind of like the Baylor of Illinois, eh?

I feel for ya. Everyt time I drive through Waco I want to hold my breath. Too much foul stench of hypocrisy there.

7. Focus on the Faux-veteran Troll
... and Tom Neven is the Focus.

What would sweet Jaaaaaaay-zus say about a supposed Xtian impersonating a Vietnam Vet? But who should be surprised about this? After all, his boss, "Doctor" James Dobson, advocates beating up children as a legitimate punishment.

8. help on Dobson..
Since we're talking about focus on the family -- does anyone here remember the thread (or another source) re: James Dobson REPEATEDLY saying "I don't usually endorse" and "I rarely endorse" a candidate.. while endorsing an average of 2 per month over the past year??

I am desparately seeking that info to add to www.redmorals.com

thanx
