Wouldn't Holden running against Santorum suffer from
the same problem Ron Klink had? It'd be awful to make the same mistake again and have that scumbag around for another 6 years.

4. That's what I heard in a late breaking news thread
that Holden would likely be Santorum's challenger.

it wasn't until today when i realized Holden has the same problems as Klink, probably even worse since Holden is even more conservative.

7. thanks
I think that any guesses now on who's going to run in 2006 are only speculation. We'd also probably lose Holden's House seat, which would be bad. I'm hoping Allyson Schwartz runs against Santorum, but that's just a hope.

8. Santorum ran a despicible 1st campaign against Wofford
JFK Chose Harris Wofford to run the Peace Corps.
Clinton chose Harris Wofford to run Americorps.

Wofford was one of the most honest decent people ever to work in government.

When Senator Heinz (moderate-R - PA) died in a helicopter crash.
Governor Casey appointed Harris Wofford (D-PA) to finish the term.

Santorum's campaign distributed thousands of NRA targets with Wofford's picture at the bullseye.

I campaigned for Wofford.
'Little Ricky' Santorum tried to hire me away from the Wofford campaign.

After we spoke, and he shook my hand, in parting, while repeating a lucrative offer.

I washed my hands several times.

I could almost believe the reptilian nonsense based on my honest impression of Rick Santorum.

In My opinion:
Anyone running against any arch conservative like Santorum
is risking joining the honor role
of Democrats who've died in unexplained accidents.

BTW
IMHO:
Ron Klink is also a decent man who served his congressional district well.

11. Klink never spent any money in SE PA
Edited on Thu Jul-10-03 01:27 PM by LynneSin
I should know, I was living there in 2000. (Moved to DE beginning of 2001)

Yes, I had issues with Ron Klink and his anti-choice stance, but then I considered the alternatives (Santorum) and jump on board 120% with Klink.

But you aren't going to win a campaign if you don't get the support out in SE Pennsylvania (Philly & Suburbs). I would watch TV commericials every night that showed Santorum as a "warm & fuzzy" guy that Pennsylvanians loved and Klink as this hard core horrible person who hated everyone who lived in PA.

Personally, I would like to see Allyson Schwartz run against Santorum. She ran in the primaries in 2000, but another Philly area dem ran (Tim Foley) and they split the Philly vote giving the dem nomination to Klink. Allyson Schwartz is popular in the Philly area and has strong alliance to Emily's List, which helped Clinton, Cantwell, and Stabenow win in 2000 (and probably would have helped Schwartz to win too).

I had always wished Rendell would have run in 2000 against Santorum, but Fast Eddie was holding out for governor. I can't see him running for any other office until after his re-election in 2006. If Ed does well in PA and god forbid Bush wins in 2004, I say Ed should run for prez (but we're going to win in 2004, so that's a mute point)

12. He would have to forgo running for a second term
if he decided to run against Santorum, since they are both up for reelection in 2006.

13. We need Holden in his congressional seat
We barely beat that old fart George Gekas in the 13th congressional district. Holden is becoming quite popular in this republican leaning district that includes a large number of Bethlehem Steel Retirees and other union workers hoping to one day see universal health care.

Personally I feel the same way with Joe Hoeffel winning because they made his district a little bit more republican, but Joe is still very popular in the region. If Joe runs for senate, I hope that Robert Borkski (the person who was merged with Joe Hoeffel's seat) will run again for that congressional district! If not, we may see this seat going to the republicans

14. I agree...
but IMHO Hoeffel's seat will be easier to retain than Holden's.

PA-13: Gore 55.8%, * 42.2%
PA-17: Gore 41.6%, * 56.1%

Incidentally, we may be able to pick up Toomey's seat with a good candidate:

PA-15: Gore 49.1%, * 48.1%

18. Rick Santorum's Loss
I think that these boards are unanimous that we need to eliminate Rick Santorum from the Senate. The best possible candidate for this job is not Ed Rendell (we need him to be governor), but Bob Casey Jr. He is a Treasurer, is well-loved, and has that famous name. I'm fairly certain he's skipping the 2004 race so that he can take on Santorum in 2006. He's sure to succeed in receiving the nomination and will most likely win.

Perfect World of 2006 Headline:

Bob Casey, Jr., son of former governor, defeats Sen. Rick Santorum in a landslide.

19. One can only hope
Bob Casey Jr. would be the perfect man for the job. At least he wouldn't be the puppet man that Santorum is. If the republican leadership says jump, Santorum asks how high? The people in this state need a senator that is for the citizens of the state, not his fellow republican flunkies. He cares very little for the people who put him where he is today and I for one am glad he is showing his true colors. One can only hope.

21. yes, he has the same problem
also he said he's not running because he has no desire to ever be a legislator.

if we can get a pro-choice candidate, that asshole is sunk.
