Dean, Kerry deadlocked in New Hampshire poll (AP)
WASHINGTON - Democrats Howard Dean and John Kerry are deadlocked in a New Hampshire poll of likely voters in the presidential primary.

The survey by Franklin Pierce College showed Dean, the former Vermont governor, at 22 percent, and Kerry, the Massachusetts senator, at 21 percent. The poll, conducted for WNDS-TV in Derry, N.H., was taken July 20-24.

The survey also found an increasing number of undecided voters - 37 percent, up from 31 percent in May. A poll last week by the American Research Group in New Hampshire also found a spike in the undecideds, with many saying they were taking another look at the Democratic field as President Bush's approval ratings dropped and he appeared more vulnerable.

The American Research Group poll showed Kerry with a slight lead over Dean.

1. A prediction -
and keep in mind I'm neither an American citizen, resident, or a Kerry or Dean supporter (I'm for Graham).

I think Dean is going to win in New Hampshire unless something changes dramatically. Kerry has only been losing ground since his extremely cautious campaign begun, whereas Dean has moved from 1-3% to 10-12% in some polls. I also believe Dean's supporters will be more likely to get to the polls. If this thing stays in the kind of dead-heat position it's in now, I predict a Howard Dean victory in New Hampshire, after Dick Gephardt takes Iowa (it will be interesting to see who comes second in Iowa.)

2. I think I prefer Kerry
:dem:
I've looked at most of the dems websites and read their issues statements and Kerry may have the best combination of progressive and pragmatic views.

3. Franklin Pierce is a GOP based college.
The communications dept. is named for Marlin Fitzwater, and Barbara Bush is a direct descendant of Pierce.

The American Research Group is a nonpartisan poll and it has them at Kerry -25% and Dean - 19%.

4. Kerry gave Pierce's commencement address this year.
But I don't hear you howling about that.

Here's some nice photos in case you missed them: http://www.piercelaw.edu/news/03grad.htm

And the press release: http://www.resources.piercelaw.edu/releases/03COMMENCEMENT.pdf

Why the double standard?

7. another poll has Dean up 28-25
for Boston Herald. I would say for all practical purposes that Dean and Kerry are in pretty much a dead heat at this point in NH.

6. My prediction
Kerry and Dean will finish 1,2 or 2,1 in New Hampshire - but it just doesn't matter as much as it used to. Our two most recent Presidents both lost the New Hampshire primary.
