General WesleyClark responds to Bush's "Mission Accomplished" remarks
General Wesley Clark responds to President Bush's 'Mission Accomplished' Remarks

"Today, President Bush backtracked on his May 1 political photo op on the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln by blaming the troops on the aircraft carrier for the declaration of 'mission accomplished' in Iraq. This is wrong, this is irresponsible and this is not leadership. Politicizing the mission of those troops in the first place was bad theater, and diminished the office of Commander in Chief -- but to now turn his comments on those very troops is outrageous. Instead of trying to blame the sailors and soldiers, the President owes our troops in harm's way and the American people a plan to bring peace to Iraq and stability to the region."

1. To Quote Hyde And Fez.... "Oooo... BURN!"
These are the types of things that the pundits should be acknowledging too.

32. That's the spirit!
That's how I feel. Dean isn't my first choice. He is a close second behind Clark. When he has a statement that moves me to post a postive comment I will post. Maybe if we start talking like this and not slamming everyone's candidate it will send a clear message to all of the candidates. It will show them where we their base supporters are and what we like and don't like about their policies and stances!

GO CLARK!
GO DEAN!
GO SHARPTON!

That's gotta smart. Even if your dumb, that's gotta smart.

Care to respond to General Clark, Mr. pResident*?

10. The sign.
I never got to serve on a ship as big as a carrier but I think that sign was a little more professional looking than a shipboard graphics department could put out -- even on a carrier. If we could find out where the sign came from and who brought it out to the carrier, we'd have this mystery solved.

11. Thank God he's countering Bush's
bullshit. The ploy to blame things on the troops is despicable. This White House manages appearances to a tee. No detail is missed as they try to bring glory to pResident-select. Individual soldiers may have constructed the banner, but they were acting under direction-not independently.

for the sign, but he sure took credit for it when he was riding high. He also turned on the British after the WMD lie's.

17. it was the troops idea to stay off the coast an extra day?

You are so right. It was completely stage managed. Pathetic that now he's blaming them for a sign on the stage.

16. Yes but I would be surprised if they made that sign on the Lincoln
Edited on Tue Oct-28-03 04:02 PM by underpants
That was top notch quality stuff. I'm not saying they don't have the know-how but I seriously doubt that that banner wasn't brought with them. As I stated below in a post he didn't actually say it but that shows how low Rove is.

They were able to convince 70% of the 'Murkans of a link between Saddam and 9/11 without ever actually saying it. Well you can't have it both ways, they clearly were getting the 'Mission Accomplished' message over.

27. That was a particularly galling speech.
"The liberation of Iraq is a crucial advance in the campaign against terror. We've removed an ally of al Qaeda, and cut off a source of terrorist funding."

Lamebrain. He probably believes this bunk.

almost verbatim what was said in this forum today.

Way to go General...give him hell..call him out on his Top Gun Wannabe performance. Or as I saw today, his one man reunion of the Village People.

21. I don't think they will be able to use it for political ads
Edited on Tue Oct-28-03 04:01 PM by underpants
Now I know the memory hole in this country is pretty big but everyone now knows that things are not "better than they are being told" and to use that footage could be politically deadly.

I think W should have to pay the US Navy back either way. In the making of the actual fake "Top Gun" the producer had to pay the Navy to turn the carrier around for one sunset shot why not W?

BTW- the producer had no money and the check bounced.

24. bush apparently expects us to believe, that although ALL of his televised
visits have a big sign behind him - often with a repeated slogan, that on this particular stage it wasn't he or his people who created tha back drop sign, but instead the sailors and soldiers themselves.

Right, George. That makes sense :eyes:

Good call General Clark.

28. Here's why "Mishun Accomplished" was chosen (rather than "VICTORY")

__Bush to Declare End to Combat; US Troops Again Fire into Crowd of
Protesters

CBS News reports: "Bush will announce that 'major combat operations' in
Iraq are over in a speech Thursday night from the aircraft carrier
U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln at sea in the Pacific... The resident will stop
short of declaring victory or saying the war is over, spokesman Ari
Fleischer said Wednesday. Such declarations could trigger international
provisions requiring the speedy release of prisoners of war and limit
efforts to go after defeated Iraqi leaders. While major combat may be
over, Iraq remains a battleground, reports CBS News
