Kucinich mistakes himself for a serious candidate… makes absurd demands
Kucinich wants Dean ads pulled from N.H. TV

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) - Democratic presidential hopeful Dennis Kucinich is demanding that New Hampshire television stations stop broadcasting ads from rival Howard Dean, arguing that the spots distort the records of both candidates.

<snip>

Dean reacted at a news conference before a fundraiser in Burlington, Vt.…

"We're focusing most of our attention on those candidates who are attacking us, and those are candidates at the top of the polls. We're not focusing on Dennis so we're not attacking Dennis.

"Kucinich's lawyer, Donald McTigue, sent a letter to New Hampshire television stations earlier in the day, asking them to pull the ad and give Kucinich's campaign free air time to respond.

<snip>

The campaign also plans to petition the Federal Trade Commission and the Federal Communication Commission about the ads.

<snip>

Jeff Bartlett, general manager of WMUR-TV in Manchester, said he forwarded the letter to the station's attorney Friday morning. In general, the station has no right to edit or decline ads from federal candidates, he said.

1. It is absurd to expect Dean to tell the truth.

2. Is the Dean ad a misrepresentation? You never address that in the post
If so Kucinich is right. You provide no text of the ad for us to judge, just your own snide title. The crux of the matter is simple, is Dean's ad factual or does it truly misrepresent Kucinich? Without the text there is little point to discussing this.

5. But he DIDN'T oppose the war from the beginning
back in Feb 2002, he was basically IN FAVOR of the Bushco plan, except he wanted a 60-day waiting period for Saddam to "disarm" himself of his WMDs (which, you may remember, have yet to be found).

More Dean spin...."I'm the only candidate who opposed the war", "I'm the only candidate talking to the honkies about race"

What's next, he invented the internet? :eyes:

6. It's no mistake -- Kucinich IS a serious candidate.

Serious and best (most progressive) on the issues.

7. Absurdum Ridiculum
I'm looking at this stuff and thinking, "Do we have some Democratic campaign managers on crack?"

I think DK is pretty cool, but which campaign staffer's not-so-bright idea was this? Where does his campaign go with this? This just makes Kucinich look weak, and that's just stupid.

WMUR is exactly right. It's called free speech. The right to run for office and say what you want. Even if it offends somebody. (Maybe especially if it offends somebody.) Kucinich seems to suggest that some government agency -- run by George W. Bush, no less -- ought to have censorship authority over political advertising. :wtf:

Again, which Kucinich campaign staffer is on crack?

12. Don't Be Talking That Crazy Harry Potter Jive
I don't know what Absurdum Ridiculum means, but it's probably some crazy-ass voodoo.

PS - I think "Maybe especially if it offends somebody" sums up a good deal of what people don't like about Dean supporters.

And that's only the last 6 weeks. (But he did use the term "Bush-lite" :eyes:)

On edit: I'm waiting anxiously for the response. A list, from all reports here, that should be at least twice as long over the same period of time.

17. 2 things about this spam you keep spamming the board with here:
1. It's entirely from the dean blog so objective it is not.
2. I wasn't aware the campaign only began Sep. 1. so there's some missing history.

8. Dean shoots himself in the foot
Why would Kucinich supporters want to support a liar for president if Dean gets the nomination?

I won't be voting for Dean under any circumstances...and I was just coming around thinking I wouldn't vote for Gep or Lie...but ya know...I think I can add Dean to that list as well if he gets the nomination.

He'll need my vote too, I'm in Minnesota.

But ya know what Howard...I demand more from my politicians, and by saying you were the only one against the war, when Kucinich was there way ahead of you...you've lost any respect I had.

9. ErasureAcer, Let's Not Do What You Accuse
I have not heard Dean say he was the only one against the war. He does insert the words "major candidate" into that claim when I hear it. (He has also specifically cited DK as one of the other people who did oppose the war. You can find plenty of occasions when he said so. And Dean cited Graham, too, prior to his dropping out.)

In his 30 second TV ad he says "my opponents." That's legit. He did not use the words "all my opponents." With all due respect (he says gingerly, ducking for cover :-)), DK is not Dean's opponent.

And please see my post above and think about it. Do you really want a Democratic candidate who calls in George W. Bush's government enforcers to censor a fellow candidate's political advertising? This was such a royally dumb move.

14. That's how I feel about Kucinich, too.
Edited on Fri Oct-24-03 11:50 PM by w4rma
Asking the FCC to censor a Democratic ad is just lousy. And what it is over? Kucinich wanted his name in the ad and/or was nitpicking about whether he was one of Dean's opponents who criticised him about the war or not.

I lost a little respect for Kucinich today with this. I've been pretty consistent in defending him, but asking to censor a Democratic ad in the current environment where there is too much censoring going on is despicable.
