Dean: Deaths won't curb attacks
Sigourney, Ia. - Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean said Thursday that the killing of Saddam Hussein's sons would lift the spirits of U.S. troops in Iraq, but that he doubted it would stop guerrilla attacks against them.

"I don't think the violence is going to get curbed unless this president suddenly figures out how to manage something he's been unable to manage either in Iraq or Afghanistan for quite some time," Dean, the former governor of Vermont, said after a noon campaign stop in Iowa City.

Dean, who opposed the war in Iraq, concentrated his remarks more on economic and domestic policy during campaign events in east-central Iowa.

Iowa's precinct caucuses, scheduled for Jan. 19, kick off the 2004 nominating season.

"We need to start thinking about doing something for small businesses," Dean told about 50 Keokuk County Democrats in Sigourney. "They don't take their jobs offshore."

1. "disenchanted Republican"=crucial to 2004 & they do like Howard!
I love the fact that there is a http://republicansfordean.blogspot.com/">Republicans for Dean blog! A search for "republicans for kerry" "did not match any documents"!! "republicans for kucinich" was only a caustic remark in a freeper blog, and we know where "republicans for sharpton" goes.

jimlog 2.0 also points out, rightly, that clueless Repugs are supporting Dean in the mistaken notion that he is "unelectable."

and goes on:

<snip>

It's not the Democrats that are ga-ga for Dean. It's the Independents. The evidence is in the New Hampshire polling data. Amongst Independents, Dean leads Kerry 26% to 15%, but among Democrats, Kerry leads Dean 31% to 16%. Democrats are getting behind Dean, but it's because he's resonating with those ticked off at the party for not standing up to Bush.

6 months before the first primary, Dean is tapping a base of support that transcends party boundaries. Even Republicans are coming to Dean events, and switching to Democrats so they can vote for him in the primary. Maybe it's all part of this grand Republican scheme, but I doubt it.

I saw that look in their eye.

Which means the hardest part for Dean will be winning the nomination - the general election is easy. So let's see that Republican money. Hell, just give us your tax cut. We're giving ours, but it's not all that much. I hear you got a lot more. Remember, there is a $2,000 cap.

<snip>

:kick: Give em hell Howard!

2. Yep
I think there's more "sincere" type Repugs that are getting behind Dean than "Rove" type ones.

This is one reason why Dean will make a great President. Draw support from both sides of the aisle, while maintaining a strong Democratic agenda.
